So I'm not typically a Stony shipper because Stucky supremacy, but I see Stony as more of a fling. It's the first time Steve actually allows himself to express his feelings openly for a man, but it would never work out between them
Steve would want something serious and Tony just wants to be casual at the place he is in life then. They'd been arguing for awhile before Bucky comes back, but once Bucky is back Steve decides it's time to end things with Tony because he can't deny the feelings he still has for his best friend and because he knows him and Tony won't work out long term if neither of them change and he doesn't want to make Tony feel forced to choose between his life and Steve
Imagine if that had happened though but Steve actually sits down with Tony and tells him why he thinks they need to break it off and he explains *everything*
Everything from thinking that Bucky had died only days before he went in the ice and that they could reunite in death to not wanting to force Tony to change anything about himself for Steve to happier and that's the first time Tony sees Steve truly vulnerable and it's when they're breaking up
But Tony sees something else too, something he hadn't seen before. Steve is scared that Tony is going to judge him and be angry with him but Tony knew deep down that they would never work out unless Tony settled down or Steve loosened up, neither of which seemed likely in their current life positions. The other thing that Tony sees is Steve's mental illness that he had worked so hard to hide from everyone, even from Tony and Sam. Steve had wanted to be with Bucky so badly that he was willing to unalive himself to see his "best friend" again
Tony loved Steve, but not the kind of love that either of them needed or wanted, and he can't be angry with Steve for realizing that and having an actual adult conversation about it
#this is how we could have prevented civil war#I prefer stucky to stony but they both could have been canon so easily and could have deepened the characters we all know and love#tony would have gained a new respect for steve being so vulnerable and honest with him#steve would have seen tony lay down on the wire for him to crawl over because tony still loves steve but he lets him go to bucky#tony knows he could never win over bucky but he also knows that him and steve wouldnt work out#tony stark#steve rogers#stucky#stony#marvel#mcu#sam wilson#avengers

Exactly! The idea that the laws of "justice" as well as public opinion ARE NOT always right or fair is basically the crux of Civil War! And in the end everyone, including Tony, realised that they couldn't give up their freedom of choice to the government and instead must do what they believe is right, even if everyone tells them otherwise. And Steve was the main representative of this idea of course.
As you rightly say, it was clear that in TFA no one agreed with Erskine's choice of Steve for the Rebirth project, because everyone expected the stereotypical big soldier. But this didn't stop Steve from wanting to continue, because fighting for the greater good was more important.
It's funny, but even Peggy understood this principle in the What If? I mean, I don't even really like Peggy's character, but I can say that she had more guts in accepting the mantle of Captain America/Carter even though no one at the time would have wanted to see a woman in such a position.
These are guts that Sam certainly lacked. And actually, beyond the guts, there is a certain selfishness and vanity in him as well, because he preferred to escape society's criticism and still maintain the acceptance and popularity of being part of the Avengers. As you say, having spent time together with Steve, you could say that Sam must have learned which ideals define Captain America.
Fighting for something bigger than himself is something Bucky always did, which is why he formed the Howling Commandos and followed Steve to fight HYDRA despite having started to develop PTSD and the constant fear of being recaptured by them... That's why Bucky was ready to fight the other Winter Soldiers and possibly die trying in CW... It's why he joined the battle against Thanos despite being tired of fighting and not feeling recovered...
Bucky always prioritized the good of others over his own... Even in TFATWS, by freeing Zemo to help track down the FlagSmashers (although this is a somewhat controversial topic, but beyond Spellman's bad writing, and assuming Bucky really had no other resources, (I actually have a theory I want to share that Bucky did indeed exhaust all his options and that he did consult Wakanda for help before turning to Zemo as a last resort)) Bucky again prioritized the greater good, putting his conditional pardon and friendship with the Wakandans at risk (in the end you could say that they understood his reasons and so they did the favor he asked of them, a favor that was for Sam, not even for himself). And I mean, if there's anyone who found it harder to free Zemo and work with him, it's Bucky! Just imagine how traumatic and stressful it must be to have to interact with one of your former abusers, because that's what Zemo was to Bucky... But then again, this is something no one talks about...
What I mean, is that in a nutshell Bucky has always sacrificed himself and anything that might represent something good for him and put the good of everyone else first. "To lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawls over you" "the guy who makes the sacrifice play" is something Bucky has done all his life, and no one has even mentioned it.
What Steve tought literally saved Bucky's life. It was the only thing that prevented from killing himself.
THIS. And Steve wasn't just responsible for Bucky's safety, it was his faith in him that partially freed him from the Winter Soldier's programming and gave him back a part of his identity. Had it not been for Steve, Bucky would still be under HYDRA's control today... So how could anyone say what Steve thought didn't matter!!?? To Bucky it meant everything...
Bucky is basically, and it pains me to say it, the embodiment of the worst experiences anyone could have, from a prisoner of war to a disabled person to a sufferer of irreparable brain damage... The number of people in real life who can identify with him is overwhelmingly large. That is why everything seen in TFATWS, the ableism, the victim-blaming, the sexism, racism and the horribly misguided presentation of therapy is both outrageous and dangerous... What Spellman and Skogland did is so offensive both to the character of Bucky and to anyone who can identify with him in any way. Damn it! You don't even have to have been through a similar experience to at least show a little empathy and respect on the subject!
As you rightly say, this is why it's so important to speak out and support the boycott of anything that supports and promotes bad and harmful messages as Marvel has been doing for years.
"that shield is everything he stood for."
Yet he was willing to give it up because his faith in Bucky was stronger
#marvel doesn't realise the enormous damage its messages can cause#or maybe they do but they don't care..#THIS MUST END#justice for Bucky#he deserves much better#he deserves respect and justice#bucky barnes#james bucky barnes#mcu bucky barnes#marvel's longest suffering victim#💔💔#marvel ableist#marvel victim-blamer#marvel unfair

Tony, the futurist
Buckle in folks, I've had some thoughts and I'm about to make it ✨everyone's✨ problem.
Been thinking about Tony Stark, the futurist who saw the end of the world.
Tony, who in IM1 escapes kidnapping and torture and says, "I shouldn't be alive. Unless if was for a reason."
who, in The Avengers, has this exchange with Bruce Banner:
Tony: You know, I've got a cluster of shrapnel, trying every second to crawl its way into my heart. This stops it. This little circle of light. It's part of me now, not just armor. It's a… terrible privilege. Bruce: But you can control it. Tony: Because I learned how. Bruce: It's different. Tony: Hey, I've read all about your accident. That much gamma exposure should've killed you. Bruce: So you're saying that the Hulk… the other guy… saved my life? That's nice. It's a nice sentiment. Saved it for what? Tony: I guess we'll find out. Bruce: You might not like that. Tony: You just might.
Right after this, Cap tells Tony, "You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you."
And then Tony flies a nuke into a wormhole, tries to call his girlfriend because he thinks these are his last moments, did not go in there expecting to survive.
Although he survives, he witnesses an alien army so terrifying, so unbeatable, it gives him crippling PTSD nightmares and panic attacks, knowing they are not prepared to defend the earth.
I'm thinking about Tony who, in AOU, gets manipulated by Wanda into witnessing his worst nightmare.
Which, by the way, involves losing all of his newfound friends.
Later, he has this exchange with Nick Fury:
Tony: And I'm the man who killed the Avengers. I saw it. I didn't tell the team, how could I? I saw them all dead, Nick. I felt it. The whole world, too. It's because of me. I wasn't ready. I didn't do all I could. Fury: The Maximoff girl, she's working you, Stark. Playing on your fear. Tony: I wasn't tricked, I was shown. It wasn't a nightmare, it was my legacy. The end of the path I started us on. Fury: You've come up with some pretty impressive inventions, Tony. War isn't one of them. Tony: I watched my friends die. You'd think that'd be as bad as it gets, right? Nope. Wasn't the worst part. Fury: The worst part is that you didn't.
Tony's worst fear is to survive in a world he's failed to save. He has to "do all [he] could" or else the future he's terrified of will happen and it will be his fault.
(Not to put too fine a point on it, but there's a reason why Tony and Peter are so compatible as mentor and mentee.)
Tony's seen what's coming, and he's willing to do whatever it takes.
Here's the thing, though:
Tony doesn't actually want to die.
In AOU, when they're arguing about why he created Ultron, Tony says this to Cap:
"Isn't that the mission? Isn't that the 'why we fight'? So we get to go home?"
He tells Bruce that the reason they should create Ultron is to have "peace in our time."
He tells Pepper that his constant tinkering, his inability to ever, ever rest is because he needs to keep her safe from the oncoming threat.
Tony has a life he wants to protect, people he wants to keep safe. And, unlike the other Avengers, he knows exactly how impossible this will be to achieve.
Tony is the only Avenger who understands how severely outmatched they are. Maybe Thor understands the threat, but he has no ability to imagine losing.
Tony tries to get them to understand:
Tony: Recall that? A hostile alien army came charging through a hole in space. We're standing three hundred feet below it. We're the Avengers. We can bust arms dealers all the live long day, but, that up there? That's… that's the end game. How were you guys planning on beating that? Steve: Together. Tony: We'll lose. Steve: Then we'll do that together, too.
Well, they do lose. And they don't do it together.
And it turns out Tony was right about everything.
He was right that he would survive to face his world that he'd failed to save.
He was right that the Avengers would not be enough.
He was right that Bruce's powers would be worthwhile someday.
And, apparently,
some people think he was right that he was only alive for this reason.
Because, obviously, the only "reason" for someone like Tony Stark to be alive is to eventually sacrifice himself, right?
A character so traumatized can only find peace in death.
Right?
No.
Stop that.
Tony Stark may have been willing to risk his life for his family, but that doesn't mean he wanted that to be his end.
Remember when this happened?
Bruce: Saved it for what? Tony: I guess we'll find out. Bruce: You might not like that. Tony: You just might.
Bruce gets to live long enough to like his ending.
Remember when this happened?
All Tony ever wanted to do was make the world a better place.
And, what about this?
You're telling me that Yinsen didn't value family above all else?
That he thought Tony should die and leave them behind?
No.
Tony Stark is a futurist.
He is the Cassandra of the MCU. He warns the others constantly of the oncoming threat that only he, apparently, can see. (Even Thanos calls him "cursed with knowledge.")
No one believes him. Alone, he tries to prepare for the threat that he has witnessed. He sits with his nightmares and tries to find a way around them, constantly.
He builds a life worth living, finds people worth protecting, just like Yinsen told him to.
To protect the future, he does all he possibly can.
Tony deserved to be part of the future too.
#this is messy as hell but I'm UPSET and I need ALL OF YOU TO BE UPSET WITH ME TOO#say it louder for the people in the back#TONY STARK DESERVED A HAPPY ENDING#FUCK THE RUSSOS#thoughts#tony stark#he just. he knew he was going to die. that whole time!#and he was fine with it but also he was NOT FINE WITH IT.#GOD.#let tony be with his fucking CHILDREN. his FAMILY.#you're saying CAP got to be with his family??? Tony gets injured during a mission, and his Omega, peter is not happy about it.
Notes: It’s pretty angsty at first but I tried to give it a little extra fluff and warmth at the end for you. Sorry this took me over a year to finish 😅Here’s to hoping this means I finish the other drafts of prompts I got ages ago.
Warning(s): ABO Dynamics, Light Angst, Peter Cries ______________________________________________________________
It wasn’t coming together right.
Peter stared at his sad attempt at a nest with tears swimming in his eyes. After Tony had been called away on a mission, the omega was left to his own devices. The rest of the Avengers wouldn’t let him do a thing in his “condition” (even saying the word made him want to roll his eyes), least of all his alpha. Tony had taken his possessive jealousy to a new level the minute he’d found out Peter was carrying. So, while he went out and risked his neck, Peter was stuck at home, staring at the pathetic lump of pillows and balls of Tony’s shirts that he’d tried to make into a nest in the closet.
Why the closet?
It smelled the most of his alpha, and was small (well, smaller than the bedroom) enough that he felt safe. He missed his alpha, much as Peter didn’t want to admit it, and kept asking FRIDAY for updates on the man. She’d tell him things like, “He’s fine, Peter. The boss asks you to please not worry so much about him.” It didn’t help. Nothing helped, because his alpha was off risking his neck while Peter was left fidgeting over blankets and fussing about his broken nest.
He wanted to cry.
It was frustrating, the hormones that his bump was making him go through. The omega had never thought he’d be this kind of omega. Sure, Peter preened under his alpha’s eyes and he got a little too snippy and possessive when other omegas were around his mate, but the raging hormones were something else. Peter had bawled over a Dodo video of a baby bird being returned to its mama the other day. He’d cried so hard that he’d hyperventilated, and spurred FRIDAY into sending an emergency alert to Tony. When the alpha came home and found his omega in such a state, the man had all but lost his mind.
Needless to say, Peter loved being pregnant. He loved his bump and couldn’t wait to meet his baby and have her in his arms, but for the moment, he felt like a burden.
A burden who couldn’t even make a proper nest.
Before he knew it, Peter was crying again. He curled in on himself (as best he could, given he was approaching seven months along and the swell of his tummy got in the way every time he tried) and sat there near his nest, silent tears rolling down his cheeks. He wanted his alpha. Peter sniffled, reaching for one of the shirts he’d strewn across the nest. It was an old Black Sabbath shirt of Tony’s, one that had seen plenty love itself and came with a smattering of tiny holes near the neck. The omega pushed his nose against the fabric and nuzzled it, stifling the sounds of his sobs in an effort to make sure FRIDAY wouldn’t alert Tony to his distress.
His senses and his hormones were supercharged. It had been hours since Tony (and a few of the others) had rushed off to fight some super powered sea monster. Truth be told, the reason that Peter was crying in the closet was because his alpha was gone, not because of his nest. He bit back a wail as he thought of his alpha, hating how Tony was so quick to rush into danger. Peter had tried to convince him.
“If I’m not allowed to go on missions, you shouldn’t be, either!”
“Baby, that’s ridiculous. I’m not pregnant.”
Peter had stared up at his alpha. They were tucked away together on the couch, Tony with one arm draped around him, his attention on a hologram that FRIDAY was projecting. Peter was nestled into his alpha’s side, desperate (he hated it, how needy the pregnancy was making him) for attention after his alpha had been away all day. The words stung. Peter bit his lip and looked down. It was archaic, the way that Tony treated him now that he was pregnant, and it made him want to scream about how unfair it was.
He hadn’t felt like such a child since before the whole Adrian Toomes incident.
“But alpha, you could get hurt,” Peter tried, and he gave a hopeful glance to Tony’s hand, hoping his fingers would stop moving where they hovered near the hologram.
Instead, Tony sighed. “Peter, this isn’t a discussion.”
“It should be! You’re just as important as I am — ”
“I’m going, Peter. End of discussion.”
In his mess of a nest, Peter whimpered as he remembered how his alpha used that tone on him. It wasn’t often Tony used the deep, alpha baritone to give him commands or bark at him. The thought of it now was enough to bring the boy to near tears. His bottom lip wobbled, and he sniffled and another wave of hiccuped sobs came over him.
“Peter?”
The sound of a warm voice made his breath hitch in his throat. Boggled as his mind was, his first thought went to his alpha — to Tony. But the person standing in the doorway, disheveled and exhausted, was a different alpha. Steve Rogers must have come straight from the battlefield. He had flecks of shrapnel on his uniform, which looked tattered and soaked. His hair was wet, matted down onto his forehead, giving it a dirty blond look. Steve hesitated, and Peter knew it was because of the waves of distress he was letting loose, flooding the air of the bedroom. “Where’s Tony?” Peter whispered.
Steve’s hesitation was all he needed to see to know something was wrong. “Don’t panic,” he started, looking like he wanted to step further into the room and then thinking better of it. “He’s in the med-bay right now, but was knocked unconscious by — ”
Peter did sit around and wait for Steve to tell him the rest. He was on his feet surprisingly fast (at least he had his spider dexterity when it counted), brushing past the alpha. He heard Steve calling after him, but Peter shook his head and didn’t wait around. If FRIDAY had granted Steve access to the private room he shared with Tony simply to relay the message in person, it had to be bad. All the way down to the med-bay, Peter thought about the breathing exercises he’d learned for delivery and practiced them in real time, one hand resting against the side of his belly. The elevator took him down without waiting around for Steve, and Peter’s toes wiggled impatiently against the floor as he waited for the doors to open. He looked down, realizing he’d forgotten to put on shoes.
When the elevator slid open and left him free to rush down the hall (he didn’t waddle, dammit), his feet sounded noisy to his own ears, like the slapping sound was echoing and bouncing all over the place. He was on hyper alert, his senses going haywire. But everything stopped when he saw his alpha through the glass, attached to all sorts of wires and machines. Dr. Cho was hovering over him, using a penlight to check the dilation of his pupils. Peter rushed into the room. She looked up at him, offering him a sympathetic smile. “Peter, there’s nothing to — ”
But he cut her off, letting out a noise that was somewhere between a wail and a croak as he said, “Alpha.”
Tony’s eyes flickered open. He offered Peter a lazy smile. “Hey there, omega-mine,” he said, holding his hand out for Peter to clutch as he neared the bed. “The doc here’s got me on the good stuff. Says I took a pretty serious knock to the head.”
Peter’s attention was diverted briefly to the bandage wrapped around his alpha’s forehead. He pressed his lips together. He knew his alpha could sense the emotions rolling through him. Peter hadn’t even noticed Dr. Cho excuse herself. “You can’t keep doing this to us,” Peter whispered, letting go of Tony’s hand to cradle his bump. There were tears in his eyes again. They clung to his lashes, and his bottom lip quivered. Standing up to his alpha wasn’t something that came naturally to him, but this time it was too much. “I — I can’t stay here all the time, worried about you. You’re going to be the father to my pup Tony. Doesn’t that mean anything to you?”
The alpha blinked, looking caught off guard by the sudden emotion flitting across his mate’s face. “Of course it does,” he said, his voice quiet. “But you know the responsibility I have as Iron Man.”
Peter shook his head, squaring himself up a little, stubborn in his concern and hurt. He reeked of it, he knew. “Alpha, you’re hurt. You keep getting hurt. You have a responsibility to us. To our pup.” The tears that had built up spilled over his cheeks, creating fresh tracks. “Please,” he whimpered, his shoulders slumping under the weight of the alpha’s stare. Peter knew Tony was hurt. As an omega, he knew it was his job to care for his alpha.
“Okay, okay,” Tony said, the tips of his fingers twitching, coaxing Peter towards him. “Come here. Omega-mine, look at me.” Once Peter did, the alpha met him with a tender expression. “Alpha’s sorry. Come lay with me?” Again, he wiggled his fingers.
Unable to resist, Peter scooted closer to the bed, until he could crawl into it with his alpha. He curled up against Tony’s side, his bump forcing the alpha to scoot over some so they both had enough room. His alpha kissed the crown of his head, where he knew Tony could breathe in the scent of his shampoo. His alpha always said it comforted him, and knowing that brought Peter peace. He settled down, soothed by his alpha’s presence and his warmth. “I built a nest,” Peter said after a few moments of silent cuddling.
“Did you?” Tony sounded vaguely amused, like he already knew where this conversation was going. “How did it turn out this time?”
A long pause. “It — it went okay,” Peter said.
His alpha’s chest rumbled with a quiet laugh. “I’ll donate a few more pillows to the cause.”
Peter smiled, giggling and nosing at his alpha’s jaw. “Thank you for the generosity, Mr. Stark.” He rubbed his hand over his belly, thoughtful. “I love you, alpha.”
“I love you, too.”

Helloo :) I hope it's okay to request an imagine 🙈 maybe a bucky one where you're both in love with each other but didn't talk about it. Then maybe at the party (at the beginning of age of ultron) you both spend a great and fun time together until ultron breaks in and the fight begins. You get hit and hurt terribly and Bucky freaks out when he sees your broken body. Then he stays by your bedside until you wake up and you both finally confess your feelings. Later then he cares for you and all fluff ❤️ I hope it's okay
hey there! I would just like to say: I have seen most of the marvel films. I was a child of marvel, but I cannot remember anything that happens before like Ragnarok so I’m sorry :) I did rewatch the scenes and i took some lines directly from them so spoiler alert ig. it also took me a fat minute to realise that Bucky isn’t in the scene lol but enjoy doll xx Warnings; graphic description of injury, blood, Bucky fluff :), minor age of Ultron spoilers soz
The dress hugged your form perfectly. It glittered in the dim light of the party. You had found home next to Bucky. He kept a hand loosely on the small of your back, and you leaned into his side. A sparkling smile graced your features for the duration of the party.
You loved Bucky with your whole heart, as a friend and more. You wanted him to grab your hips and pull you in for a searing kiss. You wanted to feel his teeth against your skin. you wanted your touch to roam the vast expanse of his chest.
You had a wonderful evening. You spent the night attached to Bucky’s hip. You danced and laughed and drank. You were drunk on each other’s presence. The night began to quiet down and you settled next to Maria. Bucky on your other side. Your smile was wiped from your face as you brought your attention away from Bucky and to Maria. A deep frown suddenly landed on your features. Bucky watched as you listened, whispering for Maria.
You heard a metallic thunk, and then mechanic whirring. You pulled a gun from a holster on your thigh, silently cocking the gun and turning the safety off. You were ready to attack. The thuds and the whirring grew louder, you stood up, alerting the team of your anxiousness. They saw the gun hidden behind your back and readied themselves.
The disembodied robot rounded the corner, your breath caught in your throat. It was mumbling cohesively under its breath. You studied the beast, worry growing as you assessed the situation, and it didn’t look good.
“No,” it grumbled. You took a defensive step forward, it was small as you tried to quell your shaking. “How could you be worthy?” Your eyes widened and you opened your mouth to respond, but stopped yourself. Perhaps it was a simple malfunction. “You’re all killers.” It pointed at the group, but its wired finger lands on you, it lingers. It stays on your person, almost as if the thing had a grudge against you.
Steve and Stark mumbled quietly behind you, but it was frantic. Words fell from your lips before you could stop them. “Its justified, is it not?” It gazed upon you with a broken smile, it ignored your question. Maybe it was a malfunction, a simple prototype acting up. It didn’t respond to you, it wasn’t coherent.
“Sorry, I was asleep,” it said. It turned its head away from you, as if in thought. Was it confused? “Or, I was a dream.” It shook its head. Parts of it were missing. Wires were exposed in all its joints, the voice box was breaking. Fluid dripped from its arm as it swung about. Surely, it was about to fall apart. One bullet in the right place and this would all be over.
“I had to kill the other guy, he was a good guy” it said, hunched over. It acted like it was in pain.
“Who?” You asked. It ignored you once again, but when Steve spoke to it, it responded. It stood up, towering over you as you gripped the handle of your gun even harder. You took another small step forward. You were looking for a weak spot.
“Ultron,” Bruce mumbled.
“In the flesh,” it confirmed. An idea dawned upon you, you scrambled away from the being, desperate to put as much space between you and it as possible. It laughed at your feeble attempt to flee, unaware of the plan being formulated. It finally addressed you.
“Scared, little one?”
“Not of you,” you said coolly, a small smirk on your lips. Maria stood up, and so did Bucky,
“You should be.”
Suddenly, two other robots came flying through the drywall. You launched your attack. You used the couch, using its projectile to fling you towards the bot. Ultron grunted as you landed on its back, your thighs tightened around the makeshift neck. You began to frantically cut any wires you could, but it was no use. It grabbed you with one hand and flung you across the room. You hit the wall, crumpling to the ground in a pathetic manner.
Bucky shouted for you, but you ignored him. You grabbed your gun from where it lay a few feet away from you. You began to shoot at Ultron, but it seemed invincible. You continued to launch your attack. You tried to escape, tried to find a control panel, or an override button. But one of Ultron’s sidekicks kicked you square in the chest, sending you stumbling backwards.
Bucky called out for you, tried to help you, but it was to no avail. You were immersed in the fight, there was no distracting you now.
No matter how many hits you took, you never stayed on the ground for long, Blood was soaking your dress and dripping from your face. It was matting in your hair and dripping into your mouth. You walked with a limp and your breath came wheezing out, your chest was heavy. You didn’t relent in your ruthless attack on the enemy.
Some of the team ran, others were flung from the building. But you stayed and fought. While Tony had gotten his hands on one, Thor had stunned another. It lay on the floor. You quickly jumped into action, removing plates and fumbling with wires as you tried to rewrite its code in such a small time frame. But the light in its eyes sparked again and it flung you off its back. With the help of Steve and Thor, you successfully managed to ‘kill’ it. You were probably going to use it for parts.
Three robots had fallen, and you were injured the worst. You weren’t superhuman, and you weren’t a god. You had been the first to launch yourself at Ultron without any protection, you had been the only one to get near Ultron. The other bots had thrown you around like a ragdoll, but you were stubborn and refused to give up the fight.
“That was dramatic,” Ultron wheezed. He paced back and forth. He gazed at you as you stalked slowly towards him. “You don’t know when to stop, that’ll get you killed.” He stated nonchalantly to you, but you ignored him. He continued his monologue. “I’m sorry, I know you mean well, you just didn’t think it through... There’s only one path to peace,” he grunted, discarding the body of one of his own, it sparked on the ground. Thor threw his hammer at the villain, he hit him square in the chest. Ultron fell apart as if he were nothing.
You breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed. You fell onto ground covered in shards of glass that tore open your skin. Shards of metal and live wires sparked dangerously close to you. You panted as you let out a strained and pained groan. Bucky was quick to your side, helping you off the floor. Your vision was going, you had lost a lot of blood and your veins were still oozing.
“Hey, Bucky,” you grinned, your voice breaking as your eyes began to shut.
“Yes, doll?” He asked, frantically trying to keep you awake as he dragged you away from the scene, with Steve’s help.
“I think its time for bed.”
Bucky opposes your proposal, but Bruce insists that sleep is the best thing for you right now. And Steve says that Bruce can be trusted, and that Bruce knows what he’s doing. So Bucky allows you to slip into a deep slumber while he slumps into a chair next to your bed.
You woke up after a few hours. Your body was stiff and bruised but the bleeding had stopped and Bruce had reset your ribs.
“Good morning, soldier,” you smiled at Bucky as he crawled gently into bed next to you.
“Good morning,” he mumbled back, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “You’re an idiot.”
“We won, didn’t we?”
“You nearly died.”
“So, what? I signed up for this, you’re gonna break a couple ribs fighting killer robots. Haven’t you ever seen terminator?”
“What would I do without you?” He scolds. “You were just prepared to leave me? Without a proper goodbye?”
“You would have moved on,” you scoff, attempting to roll away, but his grip on you tightened and you winced. “Its not like we’re married, Barnes.”
“What if I want to marry you?” He interrogated. He raised his voice, and you lost yours completely.
“Do you want to marry me?” You asked slowly, gazing into his tired eyes.

“people not realizing that tony and rhodey are together” but also basically a rewrite of a1 for @lovelyirony and @official-impravidus
Tony knows the minute he meets Rhodey that he’ll marry him, or that’s what he’d tell people, if he could tell people. In reality, he knows two years into their friendship, when Rhodey brings his favorite pasta dish home from his favorite Italian restaurant, when Rhodey shrugs and said, “You said today was a rough day.”
They don’t get together until three years after that, but the switch from platonic to romantic is as easy as falling into each other’s arms; it’s as easy as fitting two matching pieces of a puzzle together; it’s as easy as the love they feel for each other.
They don’t get married until 2004, until Massachusetts signs a law into place. Momma Robbie marries them on the grass outside the building where they met.
“You’re mine,” Tony says, promises, vows, “And I’m yours.”
“You’ll always be mine,” Rhodey says, promises, vows, “And I’ll always be yours.”
-
They have to hide it, for too many reasons to count.
Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Stark Industries, the press…
It’s easier to hide it.
That doesn’t mean it’s not hard, but when Rhodey wakes up to his husband in his arms, and when Tony comes home to his husband trying to cook, and when the world falls away when they’re together, it doesn’t feel hard.
-
And then they lose each other.
-
Rhodey loses Tony to the desert, to the unknown, and he has to grieve not as a husband, but as a friend.
He doesn’t give up his search, no matter what his C.O. tells him, no matter what Obidiah tells him.
“Jim,” they both say, “He’s gone.”
No, Rhodey’s heart tells him. He’s not.
-
Tony loses Rhodey to the same men who took him, to monsters, and he can’t grieve at all.
“No survivors,” Yinsen translates one day.
Something breaks inside Tony.
He doesn’t give up his plan, because if there’s even a chance, he has to take it.
There’s a chance, he thinks. There’s a chance.
-
“Tony!” Rhodey screams, the desert wind ripping his voice away.
Tony stumbles towards him, a bloody mess of torn clothing and bruised skin and broken bones, but oh, so very alive.
They crash into each other like colliding stars.
“Hey,” Tony mumbles.
Rhodey almost collapses with relief, but he’s too busy holding Tony up to fall. “How was the fun-vee?”
Tony laughs, and it’s weak and raw and quiet, but it’s beautiful.
“Yeah, next time you ride with me, okay?”
“Okay, platypus.”
-
They fight about the suit, because Rhodey can’t lose Tony again and Tony can’t hurt people anymore.
They come to an agreement when Tony builds a second suit.
-
“But the truth is…I am Iron Man,” Tony says, and changes everything.
Rhodey’s never been prouder of him.
-
And then it all happens too fast.
Rhodey doesn’t know Tony’s dying until after he’s cured.
“You should’ve told me,” he growls, buried deep inside his husband.
“I didn’t want to say goodbye,” Tony whispers, skin soaked with sweat and face soaked with tears.
Rhodey kisses him like it’s his last night on Earth, because it isn’t anymore.
-
Tony wants to join the Avengers, the team that Nick Fury’s putting together.
Rhodey doesn’t trust a word they say, not after Rushman says volatile, self-obsessed, doesn’t play well with others, because Tony isn’t any of those things.
But he’s never been able to stop Tony from doing anything.
He can only be there to catch him after it all, inevitably, goes to shit.
-
And it does go to shit.
Phil Coulson is the one to tell them that Captain America was found, dug out of the Arctic inside the same plane he flew into it with.
Tony doesn’t want to process it. Rhodey makes sure he does.
“It doesn’t seem real–he isn’t real. He’s never been real, Rhodey, he was always–he’s not–“
“He was the thing that kept Howard from loving you,” Rhodey says, because it’s the truth, and Tony needs the truth.
“Yeah. Yeah.”
Rhodey holds him while he cries.
-
When Norse gods attack, because that’s what their lives are now, Tony goes. Rhodey doesn’t. He regrets it, later.
-
Fighting next to Captain America is younger Tony’s dream come true.
Now, it feels more like a nightmare.
-
Tony knows Rhodey doesn’t trust SHIELD.
So, he lets JARVIS take care of it, an easy quip sliding off his tongue and the hacking implant finding its place on the underside of a monitor.
-
“When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?” an agent asks.
“Last night,” Tony says, shrugging.
Captain America’s eyes, Steve’s eyes, slide to him.
-
Tony likes to play with fire, or that’s what he’ll let them think, as he pushes Bruce over and over again.
What he really knows is what it’s like to have something that steals away his freedom living inside him.
“Hey!” Steve snaps. “Are you nuts?”
Possibly, Tony thinks, but instead of saying it, he keeps pushing Bruce.
“Is everything a joke to you?”
“Funny things are.”
Steve stares at him.
Tony banters with him, because Rhodey isn’t there to stop him.
-
“Big man in a suit of armor,” Steve spits, eyes blue as glass and twice as sharp. “Take that off, what are you?”
A husband. A mechanic. A man.
“Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist,” Tony bites back, the words slipping from his tongue far too easy for half of them to be lies.
Steve scoffs. “I know guys with none of that worth ten of you.”
The worst part of it is that it’s true, despite what Rhodey says.
“And I’ve seen the footage. The only thing you really fight for is yourself.”
And doesn’t that just cut, because no, Tony fights for Yinsen, for Rhodey, for the people his weapons killed.
“You’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on the wire and let the other guy crawl over you–“
“I think I would just cut the wire.”
Because it’s easier to find a solution where he doesn’t have to die, where he doesn’t have to leave Rhodey alone.
“Always a way out. You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero.”
“A hero? Like you?” And it’s from years of Howard, years of you’ll never be like him, years of he was my best creation and you’re nothing but a boy, that give him the courage, or the resentment, to speak. “You’re a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle.”
A bottle with a serum that Howard helped stabilize.
Steve doesn’t look away, so Tony doesn’t either, because Rhodey isn’t there to change his gaze.
-
It hurts, when they lose Coulson, but not as much as it hurts when Fury tries to use it to manipulate them.
Tony leaves before he finishes talking.
-
Steve finds him.
Tony lets him talk, says what he wants to hear, until Steve asks, “Is this the first time you’ve lost a soldier?”
It hits too close to home, and Tony aches for Rhodey.
-
Fury’s manipulation works. The Avengers assemble, a colorful team of people more broken than anything else.
Tony talks to Loki; showman to showman.
The entire time, his mind is on Rhodey.
Tony doesn’t know whether to be grateful he isn’t there, or fear that he doesn’t know where he is.
-
And then it all happens too fast again.
Tony’s flying into the wormhole before he knows it, because what he does know is that Rhodey’s already on his way to New York, knows that the second aliens appeared in the sky, Rhodey was in his suit, and this is the only choice to make. No more cutting the wire.
“Calling Colonel Rhodes,” JARVIS says.
Tony doesn’t take his eyes off the icon of Rhodey’s face as it rings, and rings, and goes silent.
And then everything goes silent.
-
Rhodey sees Tony falling, sees his husband falling, and then he catches him, like he knew he’d have to.
Tony wakes up with his head in Rhodey’s lap.
“Hey,” he says, trying to keep his voice from breaking.
“You idiot,” Rhodey says, and his voice does break.
“Did we win?”
“You almost died.”
“Yeah, but did we win?”
“I’m gonna kill you so bad, you promised–“
“I love you too, honey bear.”
It doesn’t matter who kisses who first, because they’re kissing, and there are camera shutters going off, and the Avengers are staring, and there are people screaming, and it’ll be all over the news in minutes, but Tony’s alive and in Rhodey’s arms, and that does matter.
#uhhhh so i rewrote all of the first avengers movie but made it iron husbands...this is Fine....this is Good#let's play i spy and point out all of tony's trauma in this#fun fact: tony was gonna be a dad until i scrapped that plot line#anyway i'm thinking of doing a whole drabble solely focused on rhodey's reaction to the palladium poisioning bc that part is my favorite#i'll consider it#tony stark#james rhodey rhodes#iron man#war machine#steve rogers#captain america#rhodeytony#ironhusbands#ironhusbands drabble#tony stark drabble#aven.writing#i still don't know how to tag

So Was I
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x reader, Avengers x reader.
Warnings: angst, strong violence, language.
Part: 5/5
A/n: I’d like to state that I made up a few lines of poetry and I’m proud of myself.
For the time you had been taken it seemed like your body had been put under severe treatment. At this point you could’ve been gone for months. You recognised the big symbol that was painted onto the wall. Hydra. They had been testing on you, testing on the Avenger. Every day you’d go through a new pain until they found the right one. From what you could catch they were planning on using you as their next super soldier. They had obviously saw the News and what had happened and who did it to you, so they took their chance and succeeded. You were laying back onto the white bed, your arc reactor now had a new red vibranium lining on the outside of it and your new suit which stood beside you, was black, with the logo on the back. You felt stronger, stronger than you would after training, stronger than you would after once pinning Steve on his back. Steve. Steve Rogers, your enemy according to Hydra. And ‘let’s not forget’ they said ‘what that Russian Widow did you to you’. They now began another experiment on you, testing a new serum.
Back at the compound and above the ground. It had been 10 months, 3 weeks, 2 days 6 hours that you had been missing for. To say they were all ashamed would be an understatement.
Steve wanted to get away from his shield, he couldn’t look at it let alone touch it. On his wardrobe floor where he had placed it 10 months ago, it had pieces of the glass from your arc reactor surrounding it. From the impact, some of the glass had melted to his shield. He didn’t want to be reminded of it, but his tears for you couldn’t help but.
Tony nearly drunk his whole cabinet if it wasn’t for Bruce dragging him back to the lab. And then went Tony was alone, the man would cry.
Bruce didn’t want to focus on the thought of you being tortured, which you were or experimented on, which you were. But he did focus on doing everything to find your arc on the map somewhere.
Thor went back to Asgard and he didn’t want back to Asgard and he spat in everyone’s face that he didn’t want to talk to them unless the found you. His mother back at home was increasing getting worried of your absence.
Clint was home aswell to his wife and kids. Laura distanced herself from him whilst he was back there as she thought of you as family. The kids just drew drawings and tried to make their Daddy and Mommy feel better.
Wanda and Vision tried to buck up the team, but they were falling apart themselves and if they didn’t have each other, they’d be lost.
Bucky spent time on his own, he would stay in your room and sit in your chair, hoping you’d walk in the door and do his hair. He felt his arm was tainted but there was nothing he could do about that, so he tried his best to find you with Steve.
Natasha. She wallowed. She was dying inside. She wondered if the heartbreak she was going through was what you felt all those months, creeping around hiding from the team. If it was what you felt when she watched the shield drive into your heart. She didn’t dare go in your room. She couldn’t. She couldn’t look at herself.
She worked night and day trying to track you down, on every mission, in every country, yet all were failures.
They barely spoke to each other now. You affected them massively and they wanted their Y/N back. Whether you hated them or tried to kill them, they’d be so joyful that you were back.
Right now you felt best coursing through your veins and the machine that was attached around your head was slowly vanishing away your memories. You could feel all your knowledge slipping away from you. Your weaknesses being taken over from the amount of power your body had. You yelled out in pain as they would boost it up, clear it was working. A huge flash of light took over the large base and you were listening for your first command. You saw your Commander walk up to your face and he saw the change in your eyes. He snapped his fingers towards the leather straps that had metal chains wrapped over them. And you broke free from them. You hadn’t gotten taller perhaps a few inches, but your muscles were evident as your suit was placed onto you.
You were supplied with 4 guns and 3 knives. Your arc reactor had layers of protective and bulletproof glass coated over it. Now you were unbreakable. You didn’t have a name. You didn’t remember. You don’t remember your friends or if you had any, or any family. All you were focused on was your mission, the Avengers. And your main targets were ‘Captain America’ and ‘Black Widow’.
When you had been brainwashed they had managed to rid of everything except the torture the Avengers put you through. The heartbreak and physical damage. You were given your own jet and a black helmet with a red H on the front and you went off to the compound in search of one of your targets. And it wouldn’t take you long to get there.
Night had fallen at the Avengers compound and they were all in the sitting room. Silently watching a movie that no one was paying attention to. Jarvis seemed upset as he wouldn’t talk to anyone anymore, unless that was because she hadn’t been looked after for months. Friday nearly disabled herself because she was so mad at her boss. If she were a human she’d be looking for you non stop as you often had conversations with the AI.
They had all dragged each other for ‘bonding time’. They were so down and ashamed that no one heard heavy footsteps. Until Bucky picked up on the reflection and he sat up a smile on his face as it could be you.
And around the corner you came, every Avenger jumping up from their seats. No one noticed the Hydra suit because they were so focused on your breathing body. Until Natashas gaze landed on your eyes. She saw it wasn’t you, well it was. But right now you were a Hydra agent trying to kill the Avengers.
“Y/N!” Tony shouted with a big grin on his face. You pulled dour your gun and shot above his head and you would’ve gotten him if it wasn’t for Bucky pulling him away as they all scattered off in all directions. Right now you were behind a man known as Hulk. You were shooting everywhere at everyone who crossed your path or came into view. You were putting multiple holes in walls at once and you put your gun back and instead ran towards the coward and grabbed him t shirt nearly picking him up off the ground. You got out a knife from your thigh pocket and nearly jabbed it into him if it wasn’t for that voice that came from behind you and him.
“Y/N.”
You recognised the voice as Black Widow and she was a main target so you flung the other man into a wall, crashing him into the next room. You ran after her and you were nearly faster than her if it wasn’t for her jumping up into a vent. So you took a gun and starting shooting holes in the vents, hearing scurries of fear through the vents. Your super soldier hearing picked up on a whisper that came from East.
It was Tony and Wanda. They thought they were hidden as Tony was crawling towards the table with his iron fist on.
With one quick shot you blew it up. Wanda tried getting into your head but she couldn’t even get past the thick line of Hydra.
“Come on Y/N I made that! It’s Tin-Man you know me!”
He kept calling out a name you didn’t know and as he hit the wall you took a look at his arc reactor and looked at yours. You saw his hand pout from his to yours.
“The same. You see. It’s Tony.”
You put your hand around his throat and lifted him up, his head hitting the ceiling, and you started punching at his bright light. Groans, pleads and yells at you to stop game from his mouth but you soon threw him to the side aswell, discarding of him while he collapsed onto the floor. Watching you walk away, walking on the glass that had fallen from his reactor.
You went in search for the girl who was trying to break into your head and instead you ran into the man with the metal arm known as the Winter Solider. He was trying to call out your name trying to talk to you but you shut him up by grabbing him arm and jamming a piece of glass into his weak spot where the arm connected to the body. Footsteps were approaching and it was the girl again. You took a knife and held it in the air to jam into ‘Buckys’ throat but your knife was thrown across the room with some sort of red magic around it. You threw the limp body of the other super soldier towards the girl and she was too slow to react as he came crashing down into her.
The compound was a mess, glass everywhere, holes everywhere, a little spark came from a wire where your bullet had hit it.
Vision had also been seen to. He just approached you and you didn’t even acknowledge him so you just drove the bottom of your gun into his temple sending him down, and kicking him out of your way.
You would finish the targets of after you’d found your other two. You went towards the hangar where their jets were stored to see no one around.
Meanwhile, Steve was on his way down to you. His shield in his hands, not strapped onto him arm.
You knew who was behind you and pointed your gun to the troubled and saddened man who stopped in his tracks.
“Y/N. I know your in there.”
You walked up to him and smashed the gun into his face, making him fall onto his side, shield still in his hands. He got up.
“You’re not a Hydra agent. Your Y/N. Our family.”
With a grunt you hit his stomach with your fist, sending him flying backwards. He got up.
“I’m sorry Y/N.”
And now you sent your boot into his chest and made him fall on his back. This time he struggled to get up.
You had punched and kicked him so far bad that you near the edge of the runway, splashed of the water hundreds of feet beneath you. He got up.
“I’m not gonna fight you.”
He tossed his shield away from him, trying to bring you back. His face was bleeding, his back was in agony and his suit was torn because of how far and harsh he skidded backwards.
“Your my friend.”
It was an odd feeling, one you hadn’t felt for months. Did you know him? Steve? No. He was your target right? And you went with your head. As soon as he saw movement from your feet dashing towards him, he didn’t move. If you were to kill him he wouldn’t envy you, he would’ve said he deserves it. His head didn’t hit the ground and he was now on the edge of the cliff with you above him, one fist balled into his suit and the other clenched.
“Your my mission.”
The first time he heard you speak in months and it was this.
After the first punch his eye had already began to close over. The second punch, his facial skin was torn. The third punch, both nostrils began to bleed. “Your.” The fourth punch his lip cut. “My.” The fifth punch, his lip bled out. “Mission!” The sixth punch sent his head lolling around.
You had to stop to consider if what you were doing was right. You knew this man. You knew them all.
“Then finish it.” His voice broke.
“Cause I’ll go with whatever your ordered.”
He even nodded confirming that it was okay for you to kill him.
He was talking about him being your target to kill. You were ready. You were so ready to throw him off the edge of it wasn’t for that voice.
Calling out a name. You turned your head and got up. The red head was standing. Arms crossed. She had fear and tears in her eyes. As soon as you stood quickly her arms unfolded like lightening.
She took a step back as you slowly approached her, getting a knife from your pocket.
“Y/N, this isn’t you. You need to listen to me. Y/N please.”
Your anger had slowly started to build again inside you.
“Stop saying that goddamn name it’s fucking pissing me off.”
Her mouth was bobbing open and closed. She wanted to sob at seeing how you were. She wanted to see those E/C eyes staring back at her instead of the blank ones that had one thing in mind.
“Do you not know me?” She was starting to walk back into the weapons room but she had no intention of doing any harm to you. And if you wanted to beat her and kill her then so be it. She’d let you. Your fist that was empty was slowly beginning to ball up but you couldn’t hit her and why? You didn’t know.
“моя любовь, пожалуйста, послушай меня.”
The Russian sentence of ‘my love please listen to me’.
It caused you to snap and you swung at her face, causing her to groan and stumble backwards.
“Do not tell me to listen to you. I’m not your fucking love.”
She wanted to cup her face as she felt the bruise appearing but that would be selfish after everything you’ve been through.
“Ты понимаешь русский мой дорогой”
‘Do you understand Russian my dear?’
You were never taught Russian at your Hydra base so why could you understand it. You took heavy breathes and you had a confused look on your face because your lip trembled and anger was painted onto your face again. You threw your fist at her again causing her head to snap backwards and blood tricked down her lip.
She was exhausted. The sleepless nights without you, the guilt drowning her. You ran towards her and she put her arms up to defend herself but you were quick to pull them down and you landed kicks to her side and plenty of hard punches to her ribs. By the time she had cornered herself she was sure a rib or two were broken. Her forehead was gashed and bleeding. Her sides hurt like hell and her neck was strained and had knots in the muscles because of how many times her head had flung back from the strength of your fists. You were still standing strong and unharmed and that was when you retrieved your knife again.
“Моя любовь, когда ты вернешься дома, только тогда я буду дышать, моя дорогая, когда ты узнаешь мое имя, только тогда я буду улыбаться. Когда ты вернешься ко мне, только тогда мое сердце поправится.” ‘My love, when you get home, only then will I breathe. My darling, when you know my name, only then will I smile. When you return to me, only then will my heart recover.’
You were lost in thought and you could hear voices just like hers whispering that into your ear late at night or when you had gotten back from a tough mission. You heard other voices. Buck? T? Banner? Wands? Vis? Stevie?
“Natasha?”
She had tears freely falling and she noticed your tight grip on your knife still. She nodded and she slowly approached you limping but smiling to herself as you didn’t tense or move backwards.
“But you hurt me.”
She nodded again as she was in front of you now, subtly slipping the knife from your hand. She took of your helmet and placed it on the floor alongside the knife. She could see it in your eyes. The good and bad memories coming back to you. But she could see hesitance.
“I’m sorry Y/N. I’m sorry. I’m sorry but please stop this. This isn’t you Y/N, it never has been and never will be.”
You took in her words and started to accept her, not yet forgiving her and the team for what they had done to you. She knew you were still going to be a super soldier and she knows her and the teams’ actions were always going to haunt you. She placed her hand on your arc reactor and it felt like home. All she could do was hope. Hope that you still had forgiveness in your heart. Time would need to be taken for you to heal. For the hydra walls to break down. But she would be there for you. She’d do whatever it would take for you to forgive her, for her to get you back.
They all would.

Incorrect quotes (1) - The helicarrier
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Tony Stark
Tags: Flirting, Steve Rogers is a little shit and Tony is his victim.
Words: 970
Steve closed the gap between them and stared him down. “Big man in a suit of armour. Take that off, what are you?”
Tony smirked and spun around arms stretched. As he finished his turn, he lost track of his thought. Steve had been looking at his...butt? Tony opened and closed his mouth feeling naked under the hot gaze. He cleared his throat. Steve slowly looked up not even looking embarassed. Who was this dude and where was the real Steve Rogers? The one who was shy and somewhat conservative.
“Genius, billionaire, playboy, phil...philanthropist.” He cussed himself for stuttering and what seemed to be a really cool retort came as lame.
Steve didn’t seem perturbated by all that and smirked. “I know guys with none of that worth ten of you. I've seen the footage. The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play -” Steve walked closer to Tony and leaned to his ear. “-to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.” The little growl when he said “crawl over you” didn’t go unnoticed.
Tony’s anger at the insult flopped. He forced himself to remain calm. Although his pants may be getting a little too tight and he may have trouble focusing on everything except Steve breath on his neck. Tony inhaled sharply when he felt the phantom touch of his lips. Surely Steve had to know that what he said and how he acted were a bit suspicious.
It took him two times to get his answer ready and he was more than proud to say it all at once. “I think I would just cut the wire.”
Steve...honest to God chuckled and took a step back.
“Always a way out... You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero.”
Tony’s anger flared up and somehow accented his horniness. He would have the time in the future to reflect on his less than appropriate kinks. “A hero? Like you? You're a lab rat, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle!” He spat.
Steve’s smirk grew wider. He grabbed his tac belt and looked down at his lap, than up into Tony’s eyes, a dark gleam in his eyes. “I’m afraid to tell you but a few things didn’t change at all. The serum couldn't enhanced what was already big.”
Tony’s heart was now racing in his chest, his eyes grew wider and he was sure his mouth was gaping. It was not happening. Steve was not...in the 40′s being queer wasn’t well seen, right? Tony was sure his dad had been a raging homophobe until his death, so how could Steve be so calm about being out. Hell, even in the 21st century people were still bigots.
“What? No smart answers? I thought I’d have to drill -” Tony shuddered “- it into you that being a smartmouth was not really appropriate.”
“You are not my dad!” Was Tony’s only response. He mentally sighed. After years of being in the public eye he had been force to create a persona so no one could take him by surprise and see his true self. No one except a nonagenarian.
Steve tilted his head and frowned. “Is that a dare?”
Tony raised an eyebrow, at loss. “What?”
“If I can make you call me daddy, would you act accordingly?”
There and for the first time, Tony blushed. He looked around finally realizing that there were other people. Other people who had left the room apparently. This little pause didn’t give him enough time to face Steve who -
“Put on the suit. Or even better only keep your underwear and let's go a few rounds.”
- towering him. Steve was towering him and didn’t let any space to flee. Wait! Why would he flee, he admonished himself. He was a Stark and Stark were made of Iron. Without any agreement from his brain, his ego spoke loud and clear and a “Yes” escaped his mouth.
Fuck, he thought. I am truly fucked, he laughed maniacally. He couldn’t take it back now, or Steve would try to control him. No one would control him.
A day from now
The only reason Tony was standing was the suit. Frankly, his legs were jelly and even his upper body strength was weak. He forced himself to stay still. Each move was a reminder of what happened and of the lesson that was ‘drilled’ into him. He was sure he was still leaking. Gosh...it shouldn’t sound so hot. He almost burst in tears when the dull pain turned into sparks of pleasure. He mentally begged for Fury to stop talking. This goddamn meeting was lasting too long and he was losing his mind.
Tony had lond stopped listening and would keep his head looking straight in front of him and away from Steve. He wouldn’t give him the opportunity to taunt him. Again. A little flame of hope bursted in his chest. Maybe Steve would do it again if...NO! He was a Stark and he couldn’t be -
“Tony, are you listening?" Steve asked.
“Yes, Daddy,” he whimpered softly, without thinking.
His entire body froze. What did he say?! For the second time in a long time, Tony’s face and neck were burning. His only consolation was that no one could see him.
The entire room was still silent. Even Clint looked shocked and Fury didn’t make any joke. And Steve? He was now leaning back, legs open and hands toying with a knife. A wave of warmth rocked Tony's body.
Yep, still not the time to consider his kinks.
Steve offered a boyish smile. But Tony knew better. He knew that behind this All American face was hidden a roggish mastermind.

So, I’m writing Marvel now…
The thing is, Marvel is a special interest for me. Has been for a long time. The MCU while it has its downsides (I will never forgive them for what they did to Steve Rogers.) is one of my favorite movie franchises of all time. It’s a crime that I haven’t written any fics for it yet, honestly.
This isn’t nearly finished, and I have no idea when it will be or how long it’ll be. It doesn’t even have a name or full plan yet. But it’s a fun project for me. I want to explore the fact that Captain America is from the 40’s, however when he wakes up he is still in his twenties. He’s technically the youngest on the team while simultaneously being way older and being treated as way older than everyone around him. It picks up during the first Avengers film and is written from Tony’s POV. (Again, so far. It’s not done and I could still switch POV’s every once in a while.)
All that being said, enjoy!
Steve hates him. He hates Tony. Tony Stark. Son of his old friend, Howard Stark.
The old bastard was right, isn’t that just ironic.
Endless fights over Tony being a disappointment. Being nothing like the Greatest Man Howard Ever Knew. Howard never shut up about the great Captain America, so of course Tony knew this was coming.
Tony had tried when he was younger, he did. He’d tried to be better, braver, stronger, faster, witty in a way Howard would appreciate. But after a while he’d realized that no matter what he did, no matter how hard he tried, he’d never live up to what Howard wanted from him. Howard said daily that Captain America, Steve Rogers, would be disgusted by Tony. And Tony had just about recently decided that he was moving on from all of his daddy issues and metaphorically telling Howard to shove his criticisms very far up his ass. And, isn’t this just the kicker, Steve Rogers is right in front of him confirming it all.
“Big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?”
Exactly what everyone thinks I am, obviously.
“Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.”
What? He’s not about to make it easy on Captain America of all people. If anyone can handle his sass, it’s the so called bravest man who ever lived.
“I know guys with none of that worth ten of you. Yeah, I've seen the footage. The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.”
Wow, okay. He’s really laying it on, isn't he? He must be really pissed. In all honesty, Tony hadn’t thought it would be so easy to get to him. Or, rather, to get him to a point where he’s actually making personal, cutting blows.
Still, Tony doesn’t want to cause an actual fight. If he wanted that he’d have started off a little more strong, like how Rogers is. What with all the steam coming from his ears. Howard hadn’t mentioned the potentially problematic short fuse in all his ramblings. Whatever, just keep deflecting and find a way to defuse, then. He’s been around long enough to know when the right time to fight is. Currently they have a volatile, murderous psychopath who obviously wants them all fighting on board, so now is not a good time.
“I think I would just cut the wire.”
There, nice and simple. There’s no way Mr. Short Fuse can turn that into-
“Always a way out... You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero.”
Now he’s done it. He’s honestly tempted to say ‘Or what?’. Just curiosity speaking, what would Rogers do? And, another thing, Tony has never claimed to be a hero. Sure, he’s saved a few people, and yeah, he’s trying to save the world currently, but the hero label was all but thrown at him the moment he came out to the world as Iron Man. He doesn’t want to be a hero, all he wants right now is for Rogers to get off his damn high horse.
“A hero? Like you? You're a lab rat, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle!”
He hadn’t meant to say that. Truly, he hadn’t. He’s supposed to be actively diffusing the situation. But honestly it was an achievement he’d gone that long without actually retaliating. You can only push a man so far-
“Put on the suit, let's go a few rounds.”
He’s not succeeding in his endeavor to not fight Captain America. His dad is likely screeching from his penthouse in hell.
He moves away from Rogers just in time for the locator to go off, signifying that they’ve found what they were looking for. This is followed by an argument about who is going to get it, a rather horrifying revelation that his new best friend besides Rhodey, Pepper and Happy, (Yes, he has claimed this already, he just has to convince Bruce.) has tried to kill himself, and then suddenly Captain America is trying to fight him, again.
“Put on the suit, let’s find out!”
“I’m not afraid to hit an old man.” He replies calmly, though a little heated.
It’s just oh so ironic, (This whole conversation has been filled to the brim with irony.) that as Tony says that he laments how immature they’re acting. Seriously, the guy’s in his nineties, why is he pulling Tony into this? The irony strikes him then and there, as he’s watching Rogers get all riled up. Captain America is practically a kid.
It’s kind of funny to think about. Captain America, the man out of time, he’s only in his twenties. Tony is twenty years older than him, mentally. Now it’s not about fighting his fathers old friend. It’s not even about the fact that this is Captain America, and how anti-patriotic it would be to deck him.
No, Tony wont fight a twenty-something year old. It’s not dignified. It wouldn’t even be fair. Rogers hasn’t had the time to fully develop patience like Tony has. His brain hasn’t aged just as his body hasn’t. No wonder he has such a short fuse, Tony was the same way when he was young.
Something explodes while his brain is having this revelation, and he realizes that this is an attack. Good thing they weren’t fighting each other, then.
Steve helps him up after they’re both thrown across the room from the blast.
“Put on the suit.”
Tony nods, finally agreeing with the man on something.
“Yep.”
-
Of course they would end up working together to fix the turbine. That’s the way the world works. Rogers hates Tony, and Tony won’t fight him, which seems to be making Rogers more angry. But now all of that has to be put aside for the greater good. Hopefully they’ll be able to do this before another turbine goes down and the whole boat falls from the sky.
“What’s it look like in there?”
Tony really needs this to go well. Surely Rogers can’t be too inept with technology. He’s young, young people are the future of technology! He even understood the Wizard of Oz reference earlier, so he’s sort of up to date, right?
“It seems to run on some form of electricity!”
So much for his optimism. Despite the feeling that this is going to end horribly, his mouth quirks a bit. That’s why it had taken him so long to put together how young Rogers actually is.
Still, this has to be tough for the guy, he’s clearly out of his depth here and is trying to help.
“Well, you’re not wrong.”
He teaches Rogers how to fix the relays, which takes some time given that he can’t personally guide the project. He’s a bit busy clearing the debris from the turbine and trying to keep up with the flying boat’s speed enough to stay beside it. You would think they’d stop moving so he can just hover and do repairs, but no! Although he does suppose that there is quite a bit of commotion happening inside too. Enough to warrant not slowing down, maybe.
“Even if I clear the rotors, this thing won't re-engage without a jump. I'm gonna have to get in there and push.”
“Well if that thing gets up to speed, you'll get shredded!”
Aw, he’s worried. Asshole.
Does this count as laying on the wire? Is this technically superhero-ing right now? Is this enough to prove to Rogers he has the right intentions? He hopes so.
“Then stay in the control unit and reverse polarity long enough to disengage mag-“
“Speak! English!”
Tony nearly laughs. He hadn’t realized how charming Rogers actually is, underneath all of the high and mighty hero stuff.
“Unless, Selvig has figured out how to stabilize the quantum tunneling effect”.
“Well, if he could do that he could achieve Heavy Ion Fusion at any reactor on the planet.” Bruce responds, understanding every word. Oh, Tony might just be in love.
“Finally, someone who speaks English.”
“Is that what just happened?”
It was a sly little comment, but it was there. He should have picked up on it at the time. Captain Rogers is funny.
“See that red lever? It'll slow the rotors down long enough for me to get out. Stand by it, wait for my word.”
He watches the man jump over to the lever, landing a little too close to the edge for comfort. Then instead of dwelling on the fact that he was concerned for Captain America’s safety, he goes into the turbine and starts to push.
While he’s pushing, there’s some gunfire. Also some rushing coming from Director Fury in his earpiece. He wonders if anyone has come out to help Rogers, and then realizes that obviously Rogers can handle himself, so why would anyone? Eventually the turbine feels like it's moving faster than him, so it’s time to get out.
“Cap, I need the lever!”
“I need a minute here!”
Uh oh. That won’t do at all.
“Lever! Now!”
This is so not how he wanted this to go. He falls into a rotor, and slides down into the bottom part of the turbine. He is so screwed. He’s going to break his spine, or his neck. He’s going to die fixing a boat engine. Engine’s are his bitch, he can’t die fixing an engine!
Suddenly the rotors let up, and it only takes Tony a split second to fly out and assess his damage. His suit’s going to give out on him. Any second now surely. He should get out of the air-
Loki’s men are on Rogers with guns, how is that a fair fight?
At least, that’s what he thinks before he tackles one and takes them right through the side of the boat with him, finally hitting the ground and letting the suit turn off.
He can’t quite see anymore, and he can’t quite tell if it's the suit or his eyes that are damaged. He was knocked around quite a bit. Maybe it’s a concussion? He hopes it’s temporary, he can’t work if he’s blind.
Actually, scratch that. That sounds ableist. It also sounds like he’s doubting himself, which he’d never do. He very much can work if he’s blind. Plenty of people do it every day.
He feels tired, a bit hazy. He’d been knocked around maybe too much. Is Steve okay? He looks up, and the captain is jumping back into the ship. Good.
Definitely a concussion, he thinks, letting his head fall back and passing out.
-
Coulson died. Loki killed him.
Tony hasn’t been on this boat for too long now, but he’s starting to think this is a suicide mission. Agent Coulson was Pepper’s friend; how’s he going to tell her? How will the news reach the cellist he was involved with?
“There was an idea, Stark knows this, called The Avengers Initiative-”
He hasn’t been listening, and was honestly okay with the numb indifference of his thoughts. Anything not to hear Fury’s words. Lies, honestly. There’s no excuse for the arsenal that was being built, regardless of if Fury hadn’t bet on it in the first place. And now- what? He wants to use Tony and the others as the replacement arsenal? They can’t even save one agent, let alone the world.
“…to fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea, in heroes.”
Tony stands, unable to hear anymore of this. Tony’s no hero. If Coulson was smarter, he never would have believed in heroes in the first place.
-
“Was he married?”
He looks at Rogers, at his attempt at starting a tough conversation. He sees why everyone likes the guy, really. Even after their almost-fight he comes to attempt to comfort Tony. Tony, for his part, isn’t even sure why he’s taking Coulson’s death so hard. It’s not like they were friends.
He just- well, it feels like this death is on him.
“No. There was a uh...cellist, I think.”
There’s no one to inform about his death. No one to send condolence flowers to. Pepper might mourn, his coworkers may also. The cellist… well, she won't be able to pick up their fling again.
.
“I'm sorry. He seemed like a good man.”
Steve Rogers has a good heart. He may be quick tempered, but he has a good heart.
“He was an idiot.”
“Why? For believing?”
For believing in them. Believing in this stupid, sorry excuse for a team.
“For taking on Loki alone.”
“He was doing his job.”
Oh, yes, defend the dead guy. Make this argument harder. It was easier to hate Rogers earlier, when he was being irrational.
It circles back to there not always being a way out, and Tony thinks that’s bullshit. He doesn’t take well to being told things are impossible or unavoidable. If something isn’t going to work, he makes it work. Coulson should have thought ahead. He should have waited. He should have-
Better not go down that avenue.
He starts to walk away, and Rogers compares them to soldiers. Right, that makes sense. That’s why Rogers took the death so calmly. He was a soldier in a war. He’s used to losing people and having to move forward immediately. He probably has already figured out how not to blame himself for every death he’s ever witnessed.
“Right now we've got to put that aside and get this done. Now Loki needs a power source, if we can put together a list…”
Tony briefly wonders if it's healthy to compartmentalize like that. It can’t be. But then he spots the blood on the wall and his brain moves on to another thought. Rogers is right, anyway. They need to focus.
“He made it personal.”
“That’s not the point.” Rogers replies, not catching the point just yet.
“That is the point. That's Loki's point. He hit us all right where we live. Why?” He needs to explain. The man will get it if he explains. Sometimes he forgets that not everyone’s brain does the jumps his own does.
“To tear us apart.”
“Yes! Divide and conquer is great, but he knows he has to take us
out to -
win, right? That's what he wants. He wants to beat us and he wants to be seen doing it. He wants an audience.”
“Right,” He’s catching on, thankfully. “I caught his act at Stuttengart.”
“Yeah. That's just previews, this is opening night. Loki's a full-tail diva. He wants flowers, he wants parades, he wants a monument built in the skies with his name plastered…” Tony stops, revelation forming. Steve looks fully interested in wherever this is going.
“Son of a bitch!”
“What?”
“Big ugly building in New York!”
Rogers’ eyes go wide, “Let's go.” He orders, Tony already moving.
-
The battle was terrifying. There were aliens, gigantic half mechanical half flesh monsters flying around, and a murderous Norse god intent on taking control of the chaos and coming out on top. Tony wonders why NASA or SHEILD has never claimed to have seen the species this army is made up of before. These guys don’t seem very low key, what with all the planetary destruction. He doesn’t believe for a second that no one knew these things were out there.
He makes a mental note to hack the department of defense after he’s eaten his shawarma.
Tony never prepared for this. The only people who were even remotely prepared tried to nuke New York. And then Tony the not-hero, thank you very much, had to fix that problem on top of the other very pressing one. The other problem being aliens. Aliens invading the earth.
Aliens, Jesus Christ.
Afterwards, Loki gets taken to Asgard with Thor via Beam Of Light™️. Fury says the Avengers are all free to go. But Tony does extend the offer for the others to stay at the tower. They can if they need to, not forever or anything. But, if they want to stick around and help clean up the mess. Someone’s gotta, you know?
Romanoff took the offer. Then Bruce because he wants access to a lab like Tony can offer and totally not because he’s excited about their new friendship. Then Clint, who would like to stay close to SHEILD; then begrudgingly, Steve Rogers, who admits that he can’t quite afford life in New York City but would like to stay here. And suddenly the Avengers are piling into Tony’s penthouse, exhausted but still helping get rid of all the broken glass.
He goes to his lab as soon as sleeping situations are settled. (Natasha takes a guest room, Bruce gets another one, Clint and Rogers take the living room.) There’s no need to stick around. The superhero’s crashing in his guest rooms and living room are cleaned and fed, New York is saved (and subsequently the world.). Besides, he needs to start working on better living arrangements if these guys are going to stay. He gets half way through Natasha’s layout for her floor, when Jarvis lowers his music.
“What gives? I was just getting into a groove here!”
“It seems you have a visitor, sir.”
His head whips around, expecting Pepper, but instead he finds Steve Rogers standing on the outside of the glass door looking like a lost puppy in designer hand-me-down sweatpants. Tony sighs, Pepper won't be in until tomorrow. He’d had to do a lot of bribing to get the New York Airport to let his jet land. They have to clear some debris from the runway, fix some of the landing gear, that stuff.
“Shall I let him in, sir?”
“What? Yeah, yeah. Yes. Let the captain in, open the door.”
The door unlocks, allowing Rogers to step into the lab. He looks around in wonder, the exhaustion from the day being covered by the inquisitive nature of humans.
“What’s up, Cap?”
Rogers startles, having gotten distracted by the tech in the room. Then hesitantly, he speaks up.
“This place is really swell, Tony.”
He sounds like he means it so genuinely that Tony doesn’t make a remark about the outdated word choice.
“Well, it’s no flying boat, but it’s home. Speaking of, you’ll love this. Dum-e! C’mere boy!”
If Rogers looked amazed before, he looks absolutely awestruck now.
“Did you make him?” He questions as he reaches out to pet the robot. Dum-E nuzzles his hand and Tony smiles a bit at the sight.
“Yeah. Made Jarvis too, right J?”
“Yes, sir.” Rogers jumps at the sound of Jarvis’ disembodied voice.
“See? They get along too well though. They’ll surpass their old man one day. Too much plotting happening while I’m gone.”
Rogers laughs, “See, now, I would have thought you'd be all for the minds of the future.” He comments sarcastically.
“And usually I’d agree, but I don’t think I’d be happy if the new robot overlord was Dum-E. And hearing you, a twenty-something year old, tell me that the flying boat engine ‘runs on some kind of electricity’, settled it for me. I have no faith in the future of technology.”
The other man snorts, “I’m not exactly a prime example of the youth, man.”
Tony puts up a finger, “Ah, see, I’d believe you if you didn’t just call me ‘man’. I’m gonna start calling you kid.”
Rogers rolls his eyes, ignoring how that prompted a mock scolding on rolling his eyes at his elders. He then sees the current work in progress on Tony’s work space.
“Is this what you’ve been doing down here?”
Tony’s eyes follow Rogers as he walks over to the plans and starts reading them over.
“This is so nice. There’s a floor for each of the Avengers in here! Even Thor and I!”
“Yes, God’s need sleep too. At least I think they do. I’ll have to ask, actually. -And, also, why wouldn’t you have one?”
Tony watches the man's eyes widen as if being caught saying something he hadn’t meant to say out loud. Although as soon as the look of panic shows it’s gone, Rogers turns to hide himself in the plans again.
“Look, I know we didn’t start off on the right foot.” He starts, quieter than before.
Is… is Rogers attempting a reconciliation right now? Tony thinks back to all the thoughts he had earlier, where Howard may have had a fit. And how fitting he thought it was that Captain America hated him, although he wasn’t entirely happy about it. But this might be worse, actually.
“I believe you were being beaten up when we met, actually. And then I swooped in and saved you.”
Rogers immediately regains his volume, “Swooped in and saved me doesn’t sound entirely right.”
“This. Coming from the guy who still calls things swell? I think I’ll keep my phrasing.”
“I had him! You can't save someone who is in control of the situation!”
“You call being beaten up being in control? Please elaborate.”
“I was not getting beat up. I was holding my own.”
“Sure, kid. Is that a bruise?”
Rogers immediately starts feeling around his face. This is hilarious for a number of reasons. One, he has super healing and any bruise would have been gone by now. Two, Captain America looks far more worried about a bruise on his perfect face than when he was saving the world.
“Where?”
“Right- yeah, right there. Where Loki absolutely had the upper hand!”
That comment startles the older/younger man into stunned laughter.
And thats all I’ve got!! Thank you if you made it this far.

cold? chilling? freezing? (II) – s.rogers
[warnings: a fight scene and mentions of death but I think that’s it]
summary: in which y/n is an assassin turned lover | part one | part three
word count: 2,176
masterlist
The knock at your door pulled you out of your thoughts and out of the bed. You walked over to the door and opened it, not expecting who was behind it.
"Something I can do for you, Captain?" You asked the blonde that stood in front of you.
"I just wanted to formally introduce myself, get a chance to talk to you," He said firmly and held out a hand. "Steve Rogers-"
"I know who you are, Captain. And you know who I am. Is there something I can do for you?" You cut him off.
"Can I come in?" He asked.
"Two shoes in a shoebox," You raised an eyebrow and stepped aside so he could fit through the doorway.
You shut the door but kept an eye on him at all times, never having your back to him.
"You can sit on the bed," You told him but you stood by the door, leaning on the wall.
He nodded and walked over to the bed, sitting with good posture.
"I'm assuming you don't want to talk about the mission since your tone doesn't seem urgent enough and you're sitting on my bed. So, what do you want to talk about, Captain?" You asked.
"You can just call me Steve. I just figured I could talk to you one on one; there wasn't much about you in the files."
"There's not much to me, that's why. Whatever was in the file, was all that you needed to know about me," You spoke sharply, not liking that he wanted to know more about you.
You saw him let out a sigh in what looked like defeat and stood to leave. You felt bad; he was trying.
"Thank you for taking the time to talk to me, I know I'm a bit cold but I'm not used to being any other way," You forced out, not wanting to show any signs of weakness or kindness, but you also didn't want to upset him.
"It's no problem. I'm here if you ever need a chat. I'm sure we're more alike than you think."
"I'm sure we are, Captain."
He gave you one last nod before leaving, walking as if he were on a mission, very determined.
You shut the door behind him and turned around to look at your white suit that had hints of red highlighting it. S.H.I.E.L.D. designed it and you went along, agreeing it was good to rebrand. You previously wore an all-black one but you switched for two reasons. One, you knew there was already someone on the team that liked to keep a dark look, Natasha. And two, because the black looked was attached to a life that only had bad memories for you. This new look could be a new start. The only flaw about the suit is that it's so bright and noticeable so your enemies could see you coming but it also draws more attention and you didn't like to be the center of it.
"Loki means to unleash the Hulk," You heard in your ear, distracting you from your inner conflict about the suit.
You sighed and left the room, making your way to the lab. Once you got there the scientists, spies, and super solder were already there, going back and forth. And there was a weird gun-like contraption sitting on the table.
"Loki is manipulating you," You heard Natasha speak as you walked over to lean on the table with the contraption, where you could see everyone.
"I would like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction," Banner spoke clearly, catching your attention.
"You knew about this?" Steve turned to ask you.
"I'm new here just like you, Cap," You responded, not even bothering to look at him.
You listened to the boys go back and forth, causing you to roll your eyes.
"I'm sure if he were still making weapons, Stark would be neck-deep–"
"Since when was this about him?" You questioned Steve which caused a smug smile to decorate Tony's face.
"Yep, I like that one," Tony hummed to himself.
"I'm sorry, usually most things are," Steve retorted and narrowed his eyes at Tony.
"You know, this is exactly what Loki wants," You said as everyone started to speak over each other, but you knew you weren't heard.
"That's his M.O. isn't it? I mean, what are we, a team? No, no, no, we're a chemical mixture that makes chaos. We're- we're a time bomb," Banner ranted but with a calm and neutral voice.
"You need to step away."
"Why shouldn't the guy let off a little steam?" Tony instigated and put his hand on Steve's shoulder.
"You know damn well why. Back off!" Steve said and pushed Tony's arm off.
"Oh, I'm starting to want you to make me," Tony antagonized him, making you crack a smile at the interaction.
"Yeah. Big man in a suit of armor," Steve says and starts circling Tony. "Take that off, what are you?"
"Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist," Tony answered smartly and you and Natasha nodded at the same time, agreeing.
"I know guys with none of that worth ten of you."
"Knew," You quietly corrected."I've seen the footage. The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you," Steve dug into Tony.
"I think I would just cut the wire," Tony went back at Steve.
Steve glanced over at you quickly with a smile; not a happy one, you could tell he was annoyed.
"Always a way out. You may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero."
"A hero? Like you? You a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle."
"Put on the suit. Let's go a few rounds."
Thor laughed so you knew it was okay to let out a giggle, it was getting tense and you didn't want anyone to look at you weird.
"You people are so petty," He chuckled. "And tiny," He said while look at you, making you give him a face.
"Yeah, this is a team," Banner rolled his eyes.
"Agents Romanoff and Y/L/N, would you escort Doctor Banner back to his-"
"Where? You rented my room," Banner said and pointed off to the general direction of Loki.
"The cell was just in case-"
"In case you needed to kill me. But you can't. I know, I tried."
You and the others looked over at him, and you crossed your arms over your chest as you analyzed him. He was a little more unstable than you originally presumed.
"I got low. I didn't see an end. So, I put a bullet to my mouth, and the other guy spit it out," He explained.
As he kept talking, you watched as his hand moved to Loki's scepter, immediately putting you on guard, your hand reaching for the gun you kept strapped on your ankle. The others soon began to pick up on what you already noticed making you slightly worried about their reaction times.
"You wanna know my secret Agent Romanoff? You wanna know how I stay calm?"
"Doctor Banner... put down the scepter," Steve spoke up just as you took the safety off the gun and held it at your side.
Banner looked down at the scepter in his hand before looking up at everyone. And just at that moment, the computers started going off, garnering everyone's attention.
"Sorry, kids, you don't get to see my party trick after all," Bruce said bitterly and walked over to the other side of the lab.
Everyone started speaking again, trying to draft up individual plans rather than a plan for the whole group to follow.
"You're not going alone!" Steve tried to stop Tony from leaving and going after the Tesseract by himself.
"You gonna stop me?" Tony challenged and swatted Steve's hand away from him.
"Put on the suit, let's find out."
"I'm not afraid to hit an old man."
"Put on the suit."
"Oh, my God," Banner mumbled, taking his glasses off.
There was a big boom that shook the whole Helicarrier and tossed everyone in different directions. Steve tried to grab onto you, but you fell through the glass windows with Natasha and Bruce and he was tossed against a cabinet next to Tony.
"Romanoff! Y/L/N!" You heard from the earpiece in your ear.
You looked over as a bunch of metal was sprawled out over you, Natasha, and Banner. The glass shards cut tiny holes in your black cargos and long-sleeve shirt. You hadn't been in action in an outfit like this since you were back in France.
"We're fine," Natasha spoke back with uncertainty in her voice.
"Are we really?" You asked and tried to move the rubble off of you.
You heard Banner groaned in between you and Natasha's pants.
"Doctor?" You asked but he groaned even louder, his hands balling into fists.
"Bruce? You gotta fight it. This is just what Loki wants," Natasha spoke calmly, but no matter how you talked to him, he was going to shift. "We're going to be okay. Listen to me."
You watched as other agents attempted to come in and help, but Natasha shooed them out in an attempt to keep the doctor calm.
"We're going to be okay. Alright? I swear on my life, I will get you out of this. You will walk away and never ever-"
"Your life?" Banner spoke, outraged by what she said. You saw him turning green and turned back around to work on getting out of the rubble.
Banner gave you two one last look before fully turning into the Hulk.
"Bruce," You heard Natasha whisper.
You wiggled out of the pipes and quickly got up. You went over to Natasha and picked the pipe up off her leg. She shot up and you both started running, but not before grabbing the gun that fell out your hand.
"You go up top and I'll stay down here," You told her and she nodded, running up some steel steps.
For a while you were both running around, trying to hide from the big guy before crossing paths again. You found Natasha sneaking around containers, trying not to be seen by the big green man. You both looked up and he growled upon the sight of the two of you. You quickly aimed your gun and shot at a pipe, wanting to distract him so you two could run. The two of you ran through the hallway, trying to get away from him when he got close and swatted Natasha out the way, tossing her into a wall.
"Come on, you big green idiot!" You called as you kept running, bringing him further from the Russian.
He chased after you until you heard a big bang that seemed to have taken him out. You look through the hole in the wall and see him and Thor rolling on the floor. Thor tried to reason with the Hulk, calling him Banner and ultimately getting punched through some bins. You tore away from the two and ran back to Natasha.
You pulled her off the floor and dusted her off, not bothering to ask if she was okay. You heard a message about Barton, causing you and Natasha to look at each other and nod.
You and Nat figured out where he was and split up. You catch him from the front, and she'd attack from the back. You picked up that this was important for her, so while you weren't going to fight Barton yourself, you'd be there for backup and as a distraction.
When Barton saw you, he pulled up his bow and was ready to shoot an arrow at you, but Nat turned him around and narrowly dodged the shot. At one point he had her against the railing, so you took the opportunity to punch him and kick him down. He pulled out a knife and kept going back and forth with his friend. But you noticed the redhead was in a position she couldn't get out, so you kicked the back of his legs, letting him fall to the ground and Nat hit his head against the railing.
"That was a bit hard for someone we want to keep alive," You muttered and looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
You looked back at the man with the arrows as he fell back, clearly disoriented.
"Natasha?" He questioned and the woman quickly punched him, knocking him to the ground.
You and Natasha had been waiting for the medical team to arrive and get Barton. She was leaning against the railing, looking completely drained. You sat on the floor, head on the railing so the coldness of it could help with the migraine that was starting to form.
"Agent Coulson is down," You heard Fury speak after a while. "They called it."
[AN: I was not expecting this part to be this long omg but I hope you guys enjoyed it]

Spoiler alert for anyone out there who STILL hasn’t seen Avengers: Endgame....I just wanna make sure you all have fair warning.
Okay, so I usually post about Star Wars but I am also a huge Marvel nerd (I am an Amazing Spider-Man girl, I spent $123 on a first edition Amazing Spider-Man 36...it’s worth about $200 now).
Anyways
One of the best moments from the Avengers series was the connection between these two scenes.
Avengers
Steve: you’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.
Tony: I think i would I just cut the wire.
Avengers: Endgame
Tony makes a huge sacrifice by using the stones to stop Thanos at the expense of his own life.
He laid himself down on the wire and let his friends crawl over him.
But he did so by just ripping the stones off the gauntlet and using them on his own gauntlet. Thanos didn’t realize this, said a pretty epic one-liner (“I am inevitable”) and snapped his fingers aaaannd nada. Tony revealed he had actually cut the wire by tricking Thanos (making him no longer a threat) and said an even better one-liner (“and I...am....Iron Man”) and snapped Thanos and his army to dust.
This juxtaposition (yea?) is one of my favorite things about that film. Tony Stark proves that he is the man who would make the power play, lay down his life for his friends and family, AND cut the wire (the wire being Thanos with the stones). It’s pretty wonderful character development honestly. Although I think it’s something Tony always had inside of him, from the moment he realized his weapons were being sold to terrorist groups.
Anyways, that’s my Marvel fauning for tonight.

Beautiful Boy, Bathed in Disaster
As he laid dying in a Siberian bunker Tony Stark thinks about betrayals and broken promises. Left behind and half-dead he is faced with his worst nightmare.
Notes: This was literally written in hours, which is insane because usually I take forever to finish even a one shot. But this just flowed! The title comes from the song "In Loving Memory" by Chester Lockhart which played in repeat while I wrote this. I recommend you listen to it as you read it as well lol
There is a slight canon divergence as in my story, Pepper and Tony broke up after Iron Man 3 and Tony and Steve get together a little after Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Borrowed some quotes from other Avengers works, such as comics and AA
AO3 Link
"Mr. Stark."
"Captain."
-
"Is everything a joke to you?"
"Funny things are."
-
"Big man in a suit of armor... take that off, what are you?"
"Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist."
"I know guys with none of that worth ten of you. I've seen the footage, the only thing you really fight for is yourself. You are not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you."
"I think I would just cut the wire."
"Always a way out. You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero."
"A hero? Like you? You're a laboratory experiment Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle."
-
"What the hell! What just happened? Please tell me nobody kissed me."
"We won."
"Oh, alright, yay! Alright, good job guys! Uh, let's just not come in tomorrow. Let's just take a day. You ever try shawarma? There is a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it."
"We are not finished yet."
"And then shawarma after?"
-
"Oh really you two knew each other? He never mentioned that...maybe only a thousand times. God, I hated you."
-
"Sometimes I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth, but I don't want to see you gone. We need you Cap."
-
"Winghead"
"Shellhead"
-
"You are walking a little funny Steve, next time you should establish a safe word." . . . "You are walking a little funny Tony, what was that you were saying about a safe word?"
"Hilarious."
-
"Wait a second, no one else gonna deal with the fact that Cap just said 'language'?"
"I know...It just slipped out."
-
"We'll lose."
"Then we'll do that together too."
-
"Sometimes my teammates don't tell me things."
-
"I don't trust a guy without a dark side. Call me old fashioned."
"Well let's just say you haven't seen it yet."
-
"How can you possibly hope to stop me?"
"Well, like the old man said: together."
-
"No way we all make it through this."
"I got no plans tomorrow night."
-
"I will miss you Tony"
-
"Tony, when I woke up on this era, I had no one. Nothing. You gave me a purpose, somewhere to belong...You gave me a home."
-
"You wanna survive you gotta change with the times."
"Spend a few decades frozen in ice, then we can talk about survival."
"Just say it, say 'Tony I'm afraid of new tech!' admitting you have a problem is always the first step."
"Gosh Mr. Big Brain, your modern tech is so gol-darn confusing. How does this contraption turn water into coffee? Is it coal power or is it a miracle?"
"Hmm, sarcasm must be a modern invention, because when you do it, it just sounds wrong."
-
"But, with my armor gone, all I can do is improvise. Steve, even without your shield, you're still captain America. Without my armor I'm just ..."
"Tony Stark, THE Tony Stark, billionaire, genius, you are probably one of the three smartest men in the entire world. You are as tough as they come, you invented hardcore. The avengers are lucky you are on our side."
"Really? you know two people smarter than me?"
"Can't you just take a compliment."
-
"I am not half as good at - at anything as I am when I'm doing it next to you. And that's the truth."
-
"I love you."
"I love you too."
-
"Good morning Beloved. Did anyone check the dumpster for Clint yet?"
"Funny you should ask that..."
-
"I love you."
"I love you too."
-
"I'm worried about you, if you don't get some sleep..."
"I slept for 70 years - "
"Yeah, you've used that line before."
"Leave me alone. I am a senior citizen."
-
"I love you."
"I love you too."
-
"He's my friend."
"So was I."
-
"Did you know?"
"I wasn't sure it was him--"
"Don't bullshit me Rogers! Did. You. Know?"
"Yes."
-
Images and memories flashed through Tony's mind as he laid on the cold floor of the abandoned Hydra base. The Siberian cold penetrating his suit as his mind raced.
Steve had known the truth about his parents' death for years. He'd known when they fought Ultron. He'd known when he gave Tony shit about keeping secrets, the fucking hypocrite. He'd known over a year ago, he'd known when he leaned over the table to kiss Tony. He'd known when they tumbled into bed that same night. He'd known for the rest of their relationship, even when he whispered "I love you" late at night and when Tony had said it right back.
He'd known.
And now all Tony was left with was a broken suit and an abandoned shield.
Tears fell out of his eyes as he fell back to the floor. Steve had left. He'd taken Barnes and walked right out, without sparing a second thought for Tony. After he and Pepper had broken up Tony had resigned himself to being alone for the rest of his life. Then Steve had kissed him and all of the sudden Tony had been in love again. They'd still fought but Tony had learned to see Steve's side of things and to explain his side of things to Steve. Tony had been sure that this was it. He'd fallen hard and fast for Steve.
"Well that shows you, huh Stark."
-----
Some time later, Tony's eyes startled open as he realized that he had no way out of that bunker.
-----
The temperature kept dropping, and Tony had long given up hope of a rescue.
"Well Yinsen, it looks like I did waste my life after all... I'm sorry."
Tony closed his eyes.
-----
When Tony came to again, everything was still cold and painful. He tried to move, but the suit was frozen and still dead, quiet honestly, Tony didn't know how he was still alive.
The sound of footsteps echoed through the bunker, and Tony blinked trying to place the sound. Had FRIDAY alerted Vision?
A few minutes later two slender figures walked towards him.
"Father," he didn't recognize the breathy feminine voice that rang out, "We've found him. We've got Stark."
"He looks half dead. Should we put him out of his misery?" Another woman said, her voice a lot more confident. The two figures walked closer, and Tony struggle to keep his eyes open. There was no way he could defend himself.
"Patience daughter, I have plans for Stark." A deep voice responded. The two women walked into the sliver of light that managed to get into his cold dark tomb. He finally laid eyes on them and his breathing grew harsher. The two women were not...human. They were humanoid, but one of them was blue, and her body was littered with mechanic enhancements, the other was completely green with deep burgundy hair. The two of them exuded murderous vibes. The kind that Tony usually only got from Natasha and Pepper. He drew in a harsh breath and tried once more to get up from the cold floor he'd been planing to die in.
"Such fighting spirit. It's a pity that humanity does not appreciate you Anthony Stark." An imposing figure approached from the shadows. He was huge, probably bigger than the hulk himself. "I have waited a long time to meet you Stark."
"Yo...u..... kno...w....m...e?" he managed to croak out.
"I do, you are not the only one cursed with knowledge."
"..w- wh..who...?" Tony could barely keep conscious. He was still on the verge of death, and aliens invading earth was literally his worst nightmare. A new voice rang out and a squid looking figure joined the others.
"Rejoice, you will have the privilege of being saved by The Great Titan, Thanos."
"Wh...wh.." Tony gasped for breath, "...why...?"
"I have come for you Stark. Earth's Greatest Defender. When I first enslaved the Asgardian, I thought his task a simple one. After all this planet is quite primitive compared to others we've conquered before. Yet, you and your team managed to defeat my army." The titan walked closer to him, "Imagine my surprise at realizing that it hadn't been your Asgardian ally who'd laid waste to my ships and army, but a simple human. Fascinating. After that it was difficult not to pay attention. Time and time again, you defend it, and this is your reward" The titan waved a hand towards the pathetic picture Tony painted.
"G..go..f..fuh..Fuck...yo...yours...self." Thanos smiled and waved a hand to those behind him.
"Give him a blood transfusion, The Accuser should have provided enough, and make sure he survives. Once he's no longer on the brink of death, bring him to me."
---------------------
Tony had passed out after his encounter with Thanos and when he'd woken up he was being moved. The pain had dulled down, most likely a result of the forced blood transfusion. He'd shuddered as he thought about it. Once more a victim of nonconsensual body modifications.
This nightmare just kept getting worse.
He was laid on a hard surface and bound. The genius took a moment to analyze his current situation, he seemed to be in some sort of medical room, there were holograms displaying what he assumed to be his own vitals. The technology seemed advanced and otherworldly so he took this to mean that he'd somehow made it into the ship. What was this Thanos actually doing here? Where they still on Earth? Was Earth under attack?
That final thought made him pull at his restrains, he immediately slumped back in the bed his body still felt like he'd been run over by a bus.
'or two super-soldiers'
Tony closed his eyes as the entire fight replayed in his mind. God he'd been so fucking stupid. And now here he was trapped by some crazy alien bent on conquering earth. Who would protect Earth now? Rogers and Barnes were definitely on the wind now. About half of the team were sitting in Ross's super secret prison. He hoped Vision runs and hides that damn stone. God knows were Natasha was hiding.
And Rhodey. Rhodey was in no condition to fight.
The door to the room he was currently trapped in opened and in walked the mad titan himself, accompanied by his two daughters? Who looked nothing like him.
"Stark, you are awake."
"Where am I? What do you want? You better stay away from Earth or I swe-"
"Don't worry, the time will come but there is much to do before I return for Earth's salvation." Tony's jaw clenched as he watched the purple maniac approach him. "Like I said, I am here for you Stark."
"What do you want from me? From the looks of this ship, you have no need for my tech much less my money, so what do you want? Weapons? I'll die before I ever create another weapon of mass destruction!" The titan simply smiled and sat beside him. His two deadly looking daughters stood guard by the door.
"I am here to offer you a place in my order, as my son and perhaps my heir." Tony stared incredulously and glanced at the other two in the room and saw their shocked expressions. So he hadn't shared his plans for Tony with them.
"Excuse me?!"
"I admire your bravery and tenacity Anthony, you would do well in my order and when I have achieved perfect balance in this entire universe I wish to retire, but I must leave someone in charge. I think you would do well."
"You are out of your mind." the brunette gritted out.
"You could help me save this entire universe from itself, and then you would be the most powerful man in the universe. Join us Stark"
"Never. I can't believe you thought that I'd say yes to this."
"You and I are quite similar you know. I too was called mad for trying to protect my planet. I tried to save my planet and our people, I was ignored, and the entire planet perished. Are you not tired Anthony? Of trying to save a planet that doesn't want to be saved?" The ache in Tony's chest grew and he continued to glare at Thanos.
"Never." Thanos let out a disappointed sigh and got back on his feet.
"I had hoped you would see reason," he walked towards the medical equipment in the room, "perhaps a little reminder of what Earth has repaid your loyalty with will help."
Tony couldn't help his scream at the pain his head was under. As he trashed he thought he saw pitying looks come from the two women by the door.
Everything went dark.
-
His father sitting him down at 8 years-old and handing him a glass of whiskey. The start of his alcohol problems.
-
His father handing him hot tools despite his bare hands. The reason he doesn't like being handed things.
-
Tiberius Stone.
-
The Cave. The open hear surgery without anesthesia. The waterboarding. Yinsen.
-
"When I ordered the hit on you, I worried that I was killing the golden goose. But you see, it was just fate that you survived that, you had one last golden egg to give."
-
The Palladium poisoning. The fight with Rhodey. Rhodey taking off with his suit.
-
The helicarrier fight.

-

"Tell me my child, do you wish to forget? To bury all this pain and suffering. All the betrayal and abandonment?" . . . . . . . .
"Yes."

Losing You (2/2) Steve Rogers x Reader
Word Count: 1k
Warnings: starts of angsty but happy(ish) ending (cmon, it’s endgame, theres going to be death)
5 years.
5 long years.
5 difficult, depressing years since the Decimation.
5 years since he lost the battle, half the world’s population, his best friends, Sam and Bucky, you. Losing you was the final straw, especially after reuniting with you for the first time in two years.
It wasn’t fair, Steve had thought to himself, day after day, week after week. He managed to pull himself together for the sake of the team, for the sake of the world’s population who were watching and waiting for his next move.
“I keep telling everybody they should move on,” He had said to Natasha in private. “Some do, but not us.” He thought of you, your smile, your laugh, the way you fit into his arms at night. God how he missed you.
Steve knew he wasn’t the only one in pain. Thor left to New Asgard and was never seen again. Tony left to start a new life with Pepper. Both Bruce and Clint were MIA. The only original Avenger that stayed was Natasha. Steve took comfort in Nat and she in him. She was like the sister he never had. Together, along with Rhodey, Rocket, Carol and Okoye did they try to keep humanity alive.
The day Scott Lang, who was presumed dead came back, Steve knew this was his second chance at getting you back. He didn’t know if the time heist would work. He didn’t know if he would end up dead or alive. But, he was willing to do anything. Whatever it takes.
Steve wasn’t sure if he’d come out of the time heist alive. There were even times he had his doubts. But the thought of having you back pushed him beyond his limits. But when he was able to recruit Tony Stark, he knew he was a step closer to having you back. And he knew he was never going to let you go again.
---------------✪---------------
This battle against 2014 Thanos felt worse than the one 5 years ago.
All that was left was him, Tony, and Thor. He knew, he knew, that this plan worked. But of course, something had to ruin it. The Avengers compound was in ruins. He was tired. Exhausted. He wanted to give up. But he didn’t.
A million little things flooded his mind. When he went from city to city as a scrawny, pathetic even, little thing that was desperately trying to fight a war. He thought about the time he threw himself on the fake grenade, a test that compelled Dr. Erksine to choose him as the subject for the superhero serum. He remembered longing to fight, but instead, was forced to tour America like a dancing monkey. He remembered the pain of losing Bucky, his world. He remembered going into the ice and waking up 70 years later and seeing your face. He remembered falling in love with you and promising you that he’d always be there for you. He remembered seeing Bucky again and spending countless days and nights trying to find him.He remembered the best day of his life, the day he proposed and you said yes. He remembered the worst day of his life, the day you chose Tony over him, halting the wedding plans. He remembered refusing to fight you. He remembered walking away from it all, his career, his friends, his love, because of his beliefs. He remembered seeing you walk in with Bruce. He remembered crushing you in a hug, never wanting to let go. He remembered seeing you fade to ash and his vow to bring you back.
He saw Thor, struggling beneath Thanos. Summoning whatever strength he had left, he reached out and Mjolnir came to him. With a grin, he found a burst of energy overcome him. His victory was short-lived however. He soon felt himself one on one with Thanos, with only half a shield left. That’s when he heard it.
“On your left,” a male voice teased from behind him. Sam.
“And on your right,” another voice sang. Y/N. Steve smiled. You were back.
More portals opened up. Thousands of heros poured out. Asgardians, Wakandans, sorcerers, Ravagers, the Guardians, Bucky, Peter, Strange, Wanda, T’Challa, Shuri, all those who had turned to dust.
You ran to Steve and he threw his arms around you, lifting you off the ground as he enveloped you into a bear hug.
“Don’t ever disappear on me like that again,” he whispered in your ear.
“Aye, aye Captain,” you remarked with a smirk. “You ready for the fight of our lives?”
“Always,” he replied, setting you back down on the ground. He surveyed the crowd.
“Avengers…” He called out, his voice, loud and proud. “Assemble.”
---------------✪---------------
Steve didn’t expect Tony to take the sacrifice play. 11 years ago when he met him, he had told him “You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.” The moment was bittersweet. He was glad to be proven wrong, all those years ago yet the death of Tony Stark, the man who started it all, set a dull ache in his heart. He witnessed the pain in your eyes as you watched your only brother take his last breath. He took your hand as you knelt in honor of Tony. And he did the same at the funeral. Steve knew this wasn’t the end of the story, but rather the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. He knew the kid, Peter Parker along with Harley would follow in Tony’s footsteps. And he knew you would take great measures to make sure your brother was remembered.
Steve came up from behind you as you overlooked the nature surrounding Tony’s cabin.
“We did it doll,” he murmured, holding you around the waist and pulling you close.
“At what cost though,” you sighed. “We’ve got a long road ahead of us. We may have won, but we still have to face the consequences. There’s millions of people that are displaced, millions of broken up families, and-”
He cut you off with a tender kiss.
“I know. But we’re in this together. Okay?”
“Together,” you agreed.
“And Y/N?” he said softly.
“Yes love?”
“I will never lose you again.”
THE END

*Rolls Into The Endgame Tea 5 Mins. Late With(out) Starbucks*
Disclaimer: we have nothing against anyone who may disagree, everyone’s entitled to their opinion and we’re simply spilling ours
WHY THERE WERE NO REAL HEROES IN CIVIL WAR (EXCEPT T’CHALLA)
Tony and Steve were both right AND wrong
Tony was right in that the Avengers needed restrictions, and Steve was right in that the government fucking sucks
The entire thing could’ve been solved with simple communication and it’s not fair to place the blame entirely on either party
Tony’s actions were fueled primarily by his guilt and Steve is just a stubborn son of a bitch who wanted to do what was right (and protect his buddy from the forties at all costs)
STEVE AND SHARON IS NOT/WASN’T INCEST
Before Endgame (which created a DIFFERENT timeline), Steve and Peggy were never really together, they kissed once, y’all are complaining about Steve “ruining her life” because of one lip lock but he also can’t move on and be with someone else (who just happens to be her niece), which he didn’t originally know about
Also y’all are justifying female Thor by saying it’s in the comics, but Steve and Sharon are in the comics too (no shade)
WHY TONY STARK WAS NOT A BAD FATHER FIGURE
I’m not saying recruiting him in Civil War was a good thing, but the writers wanted to introduce Spider-Man, and I think Tony knew the risks and decided that Peter would be fine
In Homecoming, Tony took away the suit because Peter was acting reckless, he didn’t want him to get himself killed, and he didn’t want him to make the same Patented Stark Mistakes
Peter is a fucking angel, but he needed to be a dumbass teenage boy before he could be Spider-Man
Also there’s a time lapse between that movie and Endgame in which Peter and Tony bonded, y’all antis are acting like Peter resents Tony (bitch w h e r e), and did those interactions during Infinity War and Endgame look anything like an unhealthy relationship
Our point is that Tony isn’t perfect but he’s still #1 Dad
WHY STEVE ROGERS AND BUCKY BARNES AREN’T IN LOVE (SORRY STUCKY SHIPPERS)
Do we support Steve being bi? Sure, but he ain’t gay for Bucky
“I’m with you ‘till the end of the line PAL”
The only love interests our blonde patriot has had (canonically), are both strong independent women, Bucky has had zero (unless you count that random chick at the expo, and Dolores)
They have been best friends since childhood, this does not always lead to undying love, or fucking
Have you seen Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie fighting over which of their characters gets Black Widow? Not to mention Winter Soldier and Black Widow were a thing in the comics
Bold of you to assume Steve Rogers didn’t ask Bucky to come with him before he time traveled, and Bucky said NO
Also bold of you to assume that Steve didn’t rescue the Bucky in the timeline he created
Steve deadass told Tony in Civil War “he’s my FRIEND”, to which Tony responded “so was I”
They’re brothers okay
You can’t compare Dark Phoenix’s Cherik to Endgame’s Stucky when Cherik always had subtext, we never were under the impression that Stucky was anywhere near becoming canon (if you ship it anyway, more power to you, to each their own)
WHY PROFESSOR HULK AND OLD STEVE WERE LAZY WRITING, BUT ALSO WHY IT DOESN’T MAKE STEVE A TERRIBLE PERSON
Professor Hulk was just weird but we don’t need to tell anybody that
It was the easy way to write off Bruce Banner and he deserved better than that, it could have at least gotten more foreshadowing
Old Steve erased all of the character development from movies past
Such as events leading through Winter Soldier, culminating to the end of Age of Ultron
“I’m home”, he says to Tony, guess not
The man moved on only to look through some fucking blinds and end up right back at square one
BUT traveling to the forties to live his life with Peggy does not make him as much of an asshole as you think it does
As previously mentioned, I don’t believe Steve would leave the new timeline’s Bucky to be experimented on by Hydra, and I don’t believe he would leave Natasha in the Red Room either
Some of y’all don’t seem to understand that he didn’t change the original timeline, he made ANOTHER, in which he and Peggy were happily married (he didn’t steal anything from her)
In the new timeline, if Peggy’s former husband was Daniel Sousa, you could see this as the timeline in which he marries Violet (if you watched Agent Carter)
WHY THE DEATHS UNFORTUNATELY MADE SENSE EVEN THOUGH WE HATED THEM
If Tony had survived Endgame he just would’ve continued being called back in to fight (at least this way he finally got to take a nap)
He’s been struggling since the first Iron Man movie
It was a callback to the first Avengers where he wouldn’t lay down on the wire and let the other guy crawl over him
No matter what you people say he deserves the title of Godfather of the MCU
Black Widow’s death was also a callback because, in sacrificing herself for the soul stone, she finally felt as though she had wiped the red from her ledger
Instead of saving a man “no more virtuous than herself”, she saved half the fucking universe
Don’t @ us we love these characters a lot

Hard to be a Stark
I’ve learned that some of these are going to be mini series things within the overall world. I’m thinking Steve’s will have one more part. I have songs for Loki, and Bucky around the corner so keep a look out for those! And the sequels to Sam’s and Steve’s. :)
Also shout out to my beta, @songforherma. They are awesome and handle my crazy very well. XD
Summary: Various Avenger x Reader one-shots with songs from musicals. In this one — Tony Stark has been doing the Ironman for a while now. Kissing babies, shaking hands, still flirting all the live long day, but it’s getting harder and harder to put up the facade. So what happens when his new assistant, you, see him having a drunken heart to heart? Song is “Hard to be the Bard” from Something Rotten!
Honestly - this one is a bit more platonic. If I write a sequel, the romance stuff will show up there.
Warnings: Angst, Drunk Tony, bit of fluff, confessions, cussing, reference to violence
Word Count: 3477 words
Please don’t post my writing anywhere else without my permission. :)
Stark. The name in itself held…
Power.
Money.
Authority.
Respect.
But with all those things came…
Assumptions.
Expectations.
Anxiety.
Mockery.
Hostility.
Ignorance.
And understandable sorts of coping mechanisms.
Then came the day he declared himself the Ironman - a superhero meant to protect civilians when no one else could. Gone were the weapons of probable mass destruction his company had become so well known for. Now they were replaced by one. A suit of armor in the hands of one man who could only do his best to protect his country. He wanted to believe he was doing the right thing, taking the suit, doing something with it that helped create peace.
Then New York happened. The Avengers.
Everything shifted. Assumptions and expectations skyrocketed. Anxiety twisted its gnarly claws around his heart, opening the door and introducing a new friend — Post-traumatic stress disorder. He could act like it wasn’t there and that it didn’t exist, but then came the outside opinions. It was easier to ignore them when he was just a Stark. He could put up a facade, act like it didn’t bother him because no one knew what was going on underneath.
You’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.
Steve had cut him deep with that one. Mister Cap-sicle over here acting as he knew him. So what did he do?
I think I would just cut the wire.
Of course, after Tony risked his life with that stupid nuke, Steve realized he wasn’t as correct in his assumptions as he first thought. Tony snorted, taking a swig of Scotch before setting it on the counter. “You know what they say,” he spoke to himself. “Just makes an ass of you and me.”
But he couldn’t hold it against the old man after all Steve was dealing with a level of ignorance that came from being under the ice. His defense mechanism was mockery and hostility. Sitting in a chair, Tony stared stoically at the ironsuits across the room. They all looked like tin cans really, something made as a means for survival and turned into something greater. Leaning back in his chair, he crossed his arms. There was always some new hostile just around the corner. That didn’t go away with the suits. If anything, he and the Avengers were greeted by more of them every day which included all of the superhuman threats that the world suddenly kept on facing.
And that was where the coping mechanisms took a turn from understandable to downright unhealthy. Pepper had told him that, commented on it and voiced her concerns like Pepper always does. She needed to work on her timing. That night he’d been black-out drunk and didn’t remember anything. JARVIS had to show him the footage the next day. Guilt wracked his body because he didn’t remember. He didn’t remember screaming at her or throwing the bottle. He didn’t remember telling her to get the fuck out or the fact that he fired her. No, he didn’t remember. And when he watched the video, watched his drunken self shoot a repulser blast to shatter the glass next to her? It was like he felt his heart shatter with it because he knew he didn’t remember that. He knew if he had been any soberer he wouldn’t have done it. He would’ve called Rhodey or Happy to get her out of there before he did something stupid.
However, that was a couple of months ago and now he had a new assistant. Some girl named Y/F/N Y/L/N. She was good at her job and Pepper made sure to find someone that could handle his narcissism and ridiculous schedule, somehow someone of that nature managed to fit the bill. Still - she wasn’t Pepper. He appreciated that she acknowledged that. She never tried to be anything other than herself and it quickly earned his respect.
Ding!
Tony shifted his gaze to the computer when the email popped up. Y/N had sent him his schedule for tomorrow. Brushing it with his pinky, he watched as it popped out of the tiny screen and presented itself as a hologram before him. He couldn’t hide the annoyed huff that escaped his lungs even if he wanted to. “My days are too busy for this,” he muttered, knowing everything was back to back with barely a moment to breathe. It wasn’t Y/N’s fault. She was trying to catch him up on the reality outside. “It’s making me dizzy, there’s so much I gotta do.” Standing up, he walked closer to the schedule and his face scrunched in distaste. “JARVIS, there’s lunches and meetings and poetry readings and great, more interviews.”
“Sir, it’s about learning to combine your roles as a Stark and Avenger in a more efficient manner.”
Tony grimaced. “Traitor,” he told the AI before seeing the photoshoot he had to get up far too early for. If he even went to bed for that matter. “Gotta pose for some photos and how I deplore sitting there for eternity. Then it’s off to the bar where my bartender friend wants to name another drink after me?”
“Would you like for me to call Y/N, sir?”
At this point, Tony had stopped listening to the AI. No, his mind was far too focused on this schedule. “Then it’s back to my room, where I resume my attempt to fix this shit.” At least she knew to give him time in the shop so he could work on the suits.
“Just you and your beer?”
Of course, JARVIS would have a witty retort for that. He always did. Sitting on the edge of his desk, he felt a cold wash over him as he admitted, “And the terrible fear that I might be losing it.” Staring at the bright hologram, the grim reminders, he shook his head and swiped it away. He could think about that later. I mean, it’s not that important.
—
Hiss…
The sound was what woke him from his uncomfortable slumber. He stretched, his spine and shoulders cracking from the effort before he realized he’d fallen asleep with an iron arm in his lap. No wonder his legs were tingly. A lack of blood flow did that. Shaking his head in a futile attempt to rouse himself further, his bleary eyes and yawn signaled that he wasn’t quite there yet. His gaze ran along the lab floor, making sure he hadn’t left a random weapon lying around and it was there his gaze found your little black heels on the floor, tapping patiently. Or was it impatiently? Eh, he couldn’t bring himself to care. Instead, he stood and set the arm on the counter, sending one of his infamous “Stark smiles” your way.
It was met with the most patient look he had ever seen.
You weren’t irritated?
Tony wholeheartedly meant that today’s events weren’t important. However, that was when we initially thought it. Seeing your face? Seeing the way your brow furrowed not in annoyance, but concern? Yeah, maybe he should’ve put a little more effort into going to sleep.
“Coffee?”
His gaze shifted to the steaming cup that was outstretched in your hand. He took it, mumbling a barely coherent ‘thanks’ before taking in your appearance. Pepper always wore skirts. You wore pants. She always wore blouses. You were what looked to be a simple tank top or t-shirt underneath a blazer. It reminded him of his look. Maybe Pep warned you that the skirts and fancy clothes wouldn’t survive around an Avenger?
“Did Jarvis let you down here?”
“Nope.”
Now he was confused. “Then how —“
“Ms. Potts thought it’d be beneficial to your habits if you had someone capable of hacking.”
“Wait,” Tony gaped, eyeing you with more interest than a curiosity now. “You-You're a —“ You smile and it knocks the wind out of him. Grumbling to himself, he takes a sip of coffee. Tony didn’t really like being bested. “I want to say I’m impressed, but also that means you hacked into advanced tech when you could have knocked.”
“Would you have opened the door?”
“She has a point, sir.”
Tony looked up at the ceiling, raising an eyebrow. “You don’t get an opinion.” He knew they were both right, but did that mean he had to admit it? Really? Pinching the bridge of his nose, Tony walked back to the bottle that had been carelessly left behind on the table. He poured some of it into his coffee before drinking most of the hot, bitter, and now strong liquid. “Seriously, you’re a hacker?”
“Just for fun.” You shrugged and he snickered. You reminded him of when he first got into tech and making new things. It was just for fun then. His gaze shifted to the lab and he knew that wasn’t the case anymore. Meanwhile, you had turned to the iPad tucked into your arm, scrolling through it. “So first on the agenda —“
“Nothing.” You looked up, the puzzled expression enough to make him feel satisfied. He missed being able to stoop an assistant, confuse them and leave them floundering. If that was how it was going to be, he was sure you wouldn’t last long.
Recovering from your confusion, you tucked your hair behind your ear and shook your head. “No, Mr. Stark, there won’t be any cancellations today. You need to get back into the world. Everyone wants to hear from —“
“I don’t care what everyone wants. I’m Tony fuckin’ Stark. When have I ever cared about what other people want?”
“When your mother asked you to say goodbye to her and your father for a holiday, but you didn’t.” There was a brief moment of silence as the matter-of-fact tone shifted to a much softer one and you added, “They passed away that weekend in a car accident.”
Tony froze, his back to you. He would’ve expected some assumption that he cared when he cut off weapons production for Stark Industries. He would’ve expected some ignorant comment that he cared when he took that nuke into space. Apparently, between the two of you, he had been the one to slip up. He’d been the one to assume. Trying to recover, a wry smile curved his lips as he asked, “Figure that out in your time hacking my software?”
“No, sir. Happy told me. After…After the incident with Ms. Potts, he felt that I needed a little preparation as to the job I was being hired for.”
Happy. Yeah, Tony would remember to talk with the man at a later time. Turning to face you, he downed the rest of his coffee before dropping it in the bin next to his desk. “You know, it’s hard. It’s really hard.”
Confusion. Again. “I don’t understand.”
He grinned and gestured to everything, a perfected swagger in his step as he told you, “I make it look easy, but honey, believe me. It’s hard.”
“Yes, I gathered that from the hangover and the crutch you’ve developed for alcohol in the morning.”
Ah, you had bit more bite than he expected. Looping an arm around your shoulder, he was surprised that you refused to tense under his touch. They did prepare you for the mess that was Tony Stark. Waving his hand, holograms of videos on youtube, news articles, and various photographs appeared to surround you two. You took it all in, more curious than confused now that you started piecing together what he was getting at. “It’s so incredibly hard, so inconceivably, unbelievably hard.”
He was whining, throwing a tantrum because he wanted his way. You both knew it, but he didn’t know the assistant he had. “It’s hard to be a Stark?” you asked, a hint of sympathy in your voice as you stepped out from under his touch. Your eyes studied everything. These weren’t just something randomly picked. He had these saved. He studied everything that was said about him and, judging by the negative articles, he believed more of the bad than the good.
“Honestly? I don’t know how I do it.” You looked at him, but he no longer studied you. Instead, he was staring at the images just above. His voice was soft as he admitted, “There’s only so much of me to go around.” Seeing him like this, open and vulnerable, you weren’t sure what to expect. Perhaps it was the booze that made him act like this? No, you’d seen the footage. Pepper was completely open about Tony’s faults and wanted you to be prepared. On booze, he was angry. He wasn’t vulnerable, but far from it. But as soon as you blinked, just once, just a brief moment, that vulnerability was gone. It was replaced by that Stark smile that graced all the tabloids and interviews. “I’ve got so many fans with so many demands.” He looked at you, smirking. “I can hardly go take a piss.”
“Can’t even pee? I can schedule a bathroom break if you’d like.”
Tony snorted. Alright, he knew he was going to like you. “Be it a hero-freak or another autograph seeker, they all want a piece of this.”
“It happens when one is in the spotlight as much as you are,” you told him honestly. Walking to the desk, you took a seat and looked over the schedule, deleting a couple of things here and there. He spun around, distracted and looking at everything. Tony was doing everything he could to look like he was okay, but just watching him showed you that he was fragile. Instead of a whole man, he’d had pieces of himself chipped away over the years and it seemed his kidnapping had taken out a huge piece. Now he was struggling to glue together what was left.
“It’s a cross that I bear,” he agreed. “I’m like Jesus, I swear!” You rolled your eyes and he pointed at you, reminding you that, “It’s a burden, but I suffer through it.”
“He is suffering,” came JARVIS’s voice, a somehow mocking tone preprogrammed into the AI.
It made you laugh, but the sound died on your lips when Tony sat on the edge of the desk, his leg bumping your knee. “It’s all part of the game, the trappings of fame, but somebody’s gotta do it.” You looked up from your schedule, tucking it into your chest as you eyed him cautiously. He seemed to be tipping on an edge of sorts. Wasn’t this the sort of thing someone discussed with a therapist? Not their newest assistant? “And I know,” he mumbled, shifting his gaze from the floor to you. He leaned forward, nodding to himself as if he were trying to convince his brain. “I know I gotta go and get back to the fans and fame.”
“Yeah, you do.”
He rubbed his temples, huffing as he pleaded, “Don’t make me do it. Don’t make me go through it.”
“Mr. Stark —“
“Oh, I need to get me a drink.” He rose, moving faster than you could have anticipated. Colliding with the chair, he sent you rolling a few feet as he grabbed the bottle he’d been nursing. Taking a few good swigs of the burning liquid, he exhaled slowly. “It’s hard.”
“You’ve said that a few times, Mr. Stark.”
“Well, it’s true!” His shout made you jump though he didn’t seem to notice. No, he was long gone in his drunken stupor. Part of you was starting to wonder if he was even sober when he first woke. Sitting on the floor, he stretched his legs out and rest his head against the desk. He looked spent. “I know being a Stark made me famous,” he whispered. “But being famous is just so not fun.” Waving his hand again, the images of Ironman vanished. Instead, it was replaced by trashy tabloids and photos of himself and news articles with various women, at random parties, creating an image that he’d forced himself to maintain. The hologram divided you two, creating a wall it felt you had to break through if you had any hope of surviving this job. Picking up the bottle, he pointed to one of the older photos before taking another swig. “What people just don’t understand is that fame is demanding. It’s mentally challenging and it’s a bore, jeez, it’s such a chore.”
“To sit in a room full of people?”
To prove yourself to a room full of people
He shifted his gaze, meeting your eyes. There was a fog over the welcoming brown of his irises. Tony was drunk. Truthfully, he admitted, “I hate it.” He exhaled, his shoulders slumping. Would he continue? You weren’t sure.
“You know, you’re trying to find some short line or an innovative idea and you’re pacing the floor and hoping for…Hell, maybe just a bit of divine intervention?”
“Is that what happened with the suit?” You were curious, your tech-savvy brain aching to understand how he created something so brilliant. You were a hacker, sure, but that was nothing like being an inventor.
Upon mentioning the suit, he offered the faintest of smiles. It seemed it might be one of the better topics for him to discuss. “That was the one little nugget. That one little spark. I was ready to die and then eureka, I found it and I was ready to start.”
Silence fell between you two and you allowed yourself to smile, to feel at ease. If he remembered this, it might help him adjust to working with you. There’d be a level of trust. If not, then you could work with the information you’ve learned and slowly gain some level of traction with him. Everything took time and patience and the man sitting across from you was no different.
Not even close.
“It’s hard,” you finally agreed, earning his concentration once more.
“Wouldn’t it be hard to do something as good as the last thing you did?”
“It was already great.”
Tony shook his head and you felt like you took two steps back. He didn’t see it that way. He didn’t see himself or any of his accomplishments that way. “It’s totally hard. I’ve got fortune and fame. Everyone knows my name.”
“Can’t help it.”
“But it’s still freakin’ hard.”
You watched him carefully. He was so fragile at the moment, unlike you’d ever seen. You never would have thought of an Avenger as frail. That was your mistake. That was everyone’s mistake. The world had come to put these guys on pedestals with no concern for the fact that they were still human and broken. They all had scars and emotions to process so that they could form some semblance of a less than shattered individual. It hurt having to see it first hand, but you knew that if you hadn’t, you’d never believe it.
“You’ve taught me a lot, Mr. Stark,” you whispered, looking down at the tablet and clearing the schedule. There was always tomorrow, but today… You looked back at him. Today wasn’t the day. “I’ve cleared your schedule and will leave you to the rest of your day.” The surprise on his face made you smile. You had been a couple of steps ahead of the genius. “On two conditions.”
“Name them.”
“One, no more alcohol. Spend the day tinkering on something.” You shrugged as you stood up, waving one hand through the air to clear away the mess of history between you two. “Maybe create something new or go for a drive — something you want to do. And two, get some sleep tonight. I’ll be back tomorrow morning and we’ll try again.”
His eyes studied you as if trying to find the sneaky detail you were hiding from him. All his friends did that. Instead of being upfront, they hid a detail that would later be used to help him in some sort of way. That wasn’t the case with you. No, you were nothing but honest. No secrets. No ploys. “No alcohol and get some sleep.” Tony chuckled, holding up the bottle to you before dropping it in the bin to his right. “You got a deal.”
Progress. That was what you felt when you saw him willingly take you up on your offer. There was hope for a structured, professional relationship. “Thank you. I’ll see you tomorrow, Mr. Stark.”
Turning on your heel, you made your way to the door to give the man some peace and quiet.
“Tony.”
You paused, looking at him over your shoulder. “Sir?”
“Call me Tony.”
All you could do was nod before you left, closing the door behind you. Looking down at the schedule, you clicked on the title and slowly backspaced on the name “Mr. Stark”, replacing it with “Tony”. Well, surely it’d be a mostly professional relationship.

Side stories One
The egos of the people in this room are beginning to overwhelm you. If things don’t start to calm down something is going to go horribly wrong. A fight will break out and these are all very skilled, very capable people. And the last thing you need is your boyfriend and your father beating the absolute shit out of each other. Your watch beeps alerting you that there’s a threat and people are suiting up. You should probably join them.
“I’m suiting up.” You say and stand up. Fury nods, but Steve and Tony both glare at you.
“You’re staying here.” They both snap. You huff out a breath, you now have two men trying to tell you what to do. Lovely.
“Who the hell are you to tell her what to do?” They say in unison. But neither are in a place to say who they are to you, so they both just glare.
“You speak of control, yet you court chaos.” Thor says.
“It’s his M.O. isn’t it? I mean, what are we? A team? No, no, no. We’re a chemical mixture that makes chaos. We’re..we’re a time bomb.” Bruce stammers out. He has a point.
“You need to step away.” Nick says, looking desperate.
“Bruce is fine.” You say, looking at the director.
“Why shouldn’t the guy let off a little steam?” Tony says, putting a hand on Steve’s shoulder.
Steve shoves him off. “You know damn well why. Back off.” He snaps.
Your father steps a bit closer, eyeing Steve. “Oh, I’m starting to want you to make me.” He says lowly.
Steve eyes him back. “Big man in a suit of armour. Take that off and what are you?” He says.
“Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.” Tony says without missing a beat. Natasha hums and nods once, can’t argue with that statement.
“I know guys with none of that worth ten of you.” Steve growls.
Your eyes widen. “Steve.” You hiss, he glares at you because he doesn’t understand why you’re defending Tony. “Stay out of this (Y/N).” Steve says sternly. He looks back at Tony then. “Yeah, I’ve seen the footage, the only thing you really fight for is yourself.” Tony looks particularly angry now, and not because of what Steve is saying to him, but because of how Steve spoke to you. You can see your father slowly losing his patience. “You’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on the wire and let the other guy crawl over you.” He says.
“I think I would just cut the wire.” Tony says raising an eyebrow.
Steve smiles, but there’s something condescending about it. “Always a way out.” He scoffs. “You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero.” He says. It's a low blow and it's the final straw. You watch your father’s resolve break.
“A hero? Like you?” Tony seethes. “You’re a lab rat, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle!” He snaps.
“Dad.” You snap back. Both mens’ eyes widen at that.
“Dad?” Steve says and stares at you.
Tony smirks. “Yeah. That’s another thing I am. This one's father.”
Colour drains from Steve’s face, but he seems to recover quickly. He puffs out his chest a bit, making himself as large as possible. Tony doesn’t move.
“Put on the suit, let’s go a few rounds.” Steve says in a quiet, challenging voice.
Thor’s laugh fills the room. “You people are so petty, and tiny.”
“You are not helping.” You snap at the god.
“Yeah, this is a team-“ Bruce starts.
“Agent Romanoff, would you escort Doctor Banner back to his-“ Nick says.
“Where? You rented my room.” Bruce says gesturing toward the direction of the cell.
Nick sighs. “The cell was just in case-“
“In case you needed to kill me. But you can’t! I know! I tried!” Bruce snaps.
Everyone goes quiet and the attention snaps to him.
“I got low.” He continues. “I didn’t see an end, so I put a bullet in my mouth and the other guy spit it out!” He says, his anger is apparent. “So I moved on. I focused on helping other people. I was good, until you dragged me back into the freak show and put everyone here at risk!” Natasha looks uneasy at his outburst. “You want to know my secret, Agent Romanoff? You wanna know how I stay calm?” He all but growls. Nick and Natasha slowly reach down to their guns.
“Doctor Banner.” You say very calmly. “Put down the sceptre.” Steve finishes, stepping in front of you. He’s protecting you.
Bruce looks down at his hand and pales when he sees he’s holding the sceptre. The computer beeps then, signalling its narrowed down the location of the Tesseract.
“Got it.” Tony says and walks over.
Bruce puts the sceptre back down and walks over to the computer with Tony. “Sorry kids. You don’t get to see my little party trick after all.” He says.
Everyone is talking over each other again now that the Tesseract is found.
Your father tries to leave to go retrieve it. “You’re not going alone!” Steve says.
“You gonna stop me?” Tony says and quirks an eyebrow.
“Put on the suit, let's find out.” Steve says, tone threatening again.
“I’m not afraid to hit an old man.” Tony says, you roll your eyes.
“You’re both acting like children.” You say.
“Put on the suit.” Steve repeats.
Bruce is still looking at the monitor and his eyes go wide. “Oh, my God!” He shouts.
Then there’s a loud explosion and everything goes black.
